My Favourite Hip-Hop Traxx

musicHustle & Flow has me thinking of rap and hip-hop. I got into the genre in a big way during Public Enemy's hey days of the late 80s, early 90s. When grunge hit I found myself listening to a lot less hip-hop, but I've kept my ear to the ground listening for a good rhyme and beat ever since.

These aren't necessarily the best hip-hop songs of all time, it's just a quick list of tunes I'd burn onto a hip-hop mix if I was going to be deserted on an island or whatever. To make things interesting, I'm limited myself to one song per artists. And heeeeeere we go...

  • Public Enemy - Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos
  • 2Pac - Dear Mama
  • A Tribe Called Quest - Scenario
  • Beastie Boys - Pass The Mic
  • Big Daddy Kane - Down The Line
  • Digital Underground - Doowatchulike
  • Dr. Dre featuring Snoop Doggy Dogg - Still D.R.E.
  • Dream Warriors - Wash Your Face In My Sink
  • Eminem - Lose Yourself
  • Eric B. & Rakim - Microphone Fiend
  • The Fugees - Fu-Gee-La
  • Geto Boys - Damn It Feels Good 2 Be A Gangster
  • Cypress Hill - Insane In The Brain
  • House of Pain - Jump Around
  • Ice-T - O.G. Original Gangster
  • Ice Cube - It Was A Good Day
  • K-OS - Heaven Only Knows
  • Kanye West - Jesus Walks
  • Maestro Fresh-Wes - Let Your Backbone Slide
  • N.W.A. - Alwayz Into Something
  • Naughty By Nature - Ghetto Bastard
  • Nice and Smooth - Sometimes I Rhyme Slow
  • Outkast - B.O.B.
  • Paris - The Devil Made Me Do It

No, LL Cool J and Run D.M.C. didn't make the cut, but it was close.
