The Long Range Psyche Out

Long Range Psyche Outs

One morning last week I visited The Weather Network for a peak at the five day forecast for Toronto.  On the fifth day they were calling for 16°C.   It never happened, in fact, they were about 20°C off the mark.

This morning they're calling for 14°C this coming Wednesday.  I realize it's difficult to predict weather patterns five days in advance but why is it that during the winter the fifth day is always going to be unseasonably warm before it's changed to more realistic and seasonal temperatures?  This is all part of the long range psyche out.  In order to boost interest in weather networks, reports and web sites, Meteorologists are intentionally overly optimistic when forecasting that fifth day.

Will it reach 14°C this Wednesday in Toronto?  I'll follow this up then to prove to you that it didn't.  I'm betting we don't come close.
