Cable 10's Let's Talk Sports

The Rewind Button

Yesterday, my brothers and I hooked up to play a DVD version of Trivial Pursuit.  I was quite looking forward to it.  I love playing games of trivia and this DVD version would play clips from movies, television shows and songs before posing a question about it.  That's right up my alley.

Unfortunately, the game was a bust.  It kept repeating questions and when you'd select the sports category it would actually shut off completely.  There were so many bugs we were forced to give up this trivial pursuit.  It did, however, remind us of simpler times when we'd gather to watch a cheesy sports talk show on our local cable 10.

"Let's Talk Sports" was a weekly program airing on Rogers cable 10 in Toronto that invited viewers to call in and discuss current events in the sporting world.  It was hosted by Mike Wilner and a guy named Aaron whose last name I can't recall and part of each show was a trivia question.  If you called in with the right answer you won a free pizza and a great deal of personal satisfaction.

On a few occasions I got the nerve to call in.  The first time I got through with the right answer they had already given away the prize so all I was left with was the personal satisfaction.  Another time I got through provided my brothers with a story that has come up frequently in the twelve or so years since.  I was a little nervous and opened with "Hey guys, how's it goin'?"  To this day my brothers mimic my shaky and higher than usual delivery of that opening line.  To make things worse, I didn't have the right answer and may have insulted Tony Fernandez in the process.

It was a cheesy show on cable 10 but it was still cool to be heard on tv.  Sadly, I think more people are probably reading this now than ever heard my "Hey guys, how's it goin'?"  That's probably for the best.
