Once you start spelling out certain words, it becomes so natural you don't even realize you're doing it. With a two year old at home, I find myself spelling out any words that might get an undesired reaction. I'm talking about the names of certain treats, television shows or upcoming events. "I bought some new c-o-o-k-i-e-s", "When James goes down for his n-a-p we'll watch an m-o-v-i-e" and "He needs a b-a-t-h" are a few such examples.
There's a lot of spelling taking place in our home these days and I no longer even notice. That's a f-a-c-t.
