According to the Toronto Star, the Maple Leafs have reached an agreement with Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto to make it the new home of their American Hockey League affiliate. The deal is expected to be approved at the league meetings on Monday.
Although I feel for Leafs fans in Newfoundland, I'm very pleased with this news. I had no interest in the Toronto Roadrunners who played at the Ricoh Coliseum last season but I love the fact the Baby Leafs will now be playing home games a stone's throw away.
As a die hard Leafs fan, I'm very interested in our young prospects who will one day play at the ACC. Tickets to the ACC are damn expensive and difficult to obtain, so this is an excellent alternative. Better yet, the AHL will actually be playing games come the fall. Bonus!
Speaking of the NHL Maple Leafs, if labour strife does not interfere, and that's a huge "if" based on what I've read, we're only 69 days, 4 hours, 6 minutes, and 32 seconds away from the Maple Leafs opener! Follow the countdown here.
