Four on the Floor

Four on the Floor

Four on the Floor was a sketch comedy series which aired on CBC back in 1986.  Only 13 episodes made it to air before it was cancelled, but I think I watched all 13 of them.  As a 12 year old, I thought it was insanely funny.  A few years later I would watch the birth of another sketch comedy series on the CBC that made me forget all about Four on the Floor, but I digress...

One skit from Four on the Floor in particular really struck my funny bone and has stuck with me ever since.  In this skit, the four members of the comedy troupe were in a car that was stopped at a red light.  In the car next to them was a guy who appeared to be singing along to the radio.  The four decide to cruise their radio dial in search of the song the other guy is singing along to so enthusiastically.

They're surfing the dial when they come across the news.  That's right, a baritone voice delivering dry news in typical talk radio fashion.  This is the dialogue being mouthed simultaneous by the gentleman in the car next to them.

That's comedy genius.  I can still see it in my head as I describe it.  Without the Four on the Floor, there may never have been The Kids in the Hall.
