MGMT - Kids
Published December 13, 2008 @ 15:34 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS20 consideration. I'm submitting "Kids" by MGMT.
This is not the official video, it's some fan made vid, but it's good enough to be the official video. Although the guy and girl aren't actually MGMT... but the devil is in the details.
Have you heard MGMT's Oracular Spectacular yet? It's good, as is this single. If you like this, check out the Soulwax remix of "Kids" and The Kooks' most excellent acoustic cover.

Brendan Canning - Churches Under the Stairs
Published December 10, 2008 @ 19:41 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS20 consideration. I'm submitting "Churches Under the Stairs" by Brendan Canning.
Broken Social Scene, the Toronto indie rock supergroup collective, has this "Broken Social Scene Presents" series that features solo work by BSS members. Brendan Canning is the second member to be featured and "Churches Under the Stairs" is his new single.
Canning, by the way, was in hHead. I loved the hHead tune "Happy" back in the day, and still stick it on playlists for the iPod. And get this, Brendan Canning is the subject of an upcoming Bruce McDonald documentary. That should be cool.

Metric - Help, I'm Alive
Published November 22, 2008 @ 17:59 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS20 consideration. I'm submitting "Help, I'm Alive" by Metric.
"Help, I'm Alive" is the first single we've heard from the next Metric album, coming out in early 2009. There's a bit more at http://www.ilovemetric.com/, but not much more.
I'm digging this track. I can't wait to hear the album.

Death Cab for Cutie - Cath...
Published November 6, 2008 @ 20:26 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS20 consideration. I'm submitting "Cath..." by Death Cab for Cutie.
"Cath..." is the second single from Death Cab for Cutie's sixth studio album, Narrow Stairs. It's not as strong as "I Will Possess Your Heart," but it's still solid DCFC.

Kings of Leon - Sex On Fire
Published October 26, 2008 @ 15:00 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS20 consideration. I'm submitting "Sex On Fire" by Kings of Leon.
I'm dedicating this video to RCA Records, a unit of SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT. RCA Records, a unit of SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT, is still disabling the embedding of their YouTube videos. That means music ambassadors like me can't share the official video with you.
What RCA Records, a unit of SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT, fails to realize is that disabling the embedding of their videos merely forces web authors like me to embed the song without the official video. We all know a good video makes a good song better, so RCA Records, a unit of SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT, is essentially shooting themselves in the foot by failing to understand e-marketing in 2008. The more eyeballs that see your ad, the better, especially when I'm not billing RCA Records, a unit of SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT, one penny.

Weezer - Troublemaker
Published September 30, 2008 @ 13:08 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS20 consideration. I'm submitting "Troublemaker" by Weezer.
I sorta thought I was done with Weezer. Nobody was a bigger fan of their blue album than yours truly. It was a play-through that I played through hundreds of times. Pinkerton was a tremendous follow-up and I saw the band live twice based on the strength of these two albums.
Then, they disappeared for a few years and I moved on. The green album was okay, but now I just enjoy the hits and spin the blue album and Pinkerton once in a while. "Troublemaker" is a nice tune and will probably appear on SLS20.

Toyko Police Club - Graves
Published September 28, 2008 @ 21:06 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS20 consideration. I'm submitting "Graves" by Tokyo Police Club.
Instead of telling you why I'm submitting "Graves" for SLS consideration, I'm going to blow your mind with an amazing fact about this Elephant Shell album by Newmarket's Tokyo Police Club.
TPC cover "Friends of P" by The Rentals. No foolin'. Friend of freakin' P. I couldn't make this stuff up.

M.I.A. - Paper Planes
Published September 22, 2008 @ 21:43 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS20 consideration. I'm submitting "Paper Planes" by M.I.A.
This tune has had a very interesting year. It was released on iTunes back in February, it got my attention shortly thereafter when I read about MTV's refusal to air the video with the gunshots and then I hit up YouTube to hear what all the fuss was about.
I liked the tune, thought it was awfully catchy, but it wasn't until I started hearing it again during the Pineapple Express trailer that I started to really dig it. Now, 102.1 has decided to add it to their playlist and I've been catching it on the radio. All this exposure has me finally succumbing and nominating it for SLS20 consideration.
This one has legs.

I'm submitting a song for SLS20 consideration. I'm submitting "Turn Your Back" by Billy Talent & Anti-Flag.
This is the first single from the new album. I don't believe they've named the new Billy Talent album yet, but my money's on Billy Talent III.
