SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
Mother Mother - Body of Years
Published May 26, 2009 @ 10:58 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS21 consideration. I'm submitting "Body of Years" by Mother Mother.
This sweet indie band is based in Vancouver. They released O My Heart in late 2008 and this is their first big radio single off the album, at least in this neck of the woods. I dig it.

Sam Roberts - Fixed to Ruin
Published May 15, 2009 @ 14:21 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS21 consideration. I'm submitting "Fixed to Ruin" by Sam Roberts.
I've seen Sam Roberts perform three times, and he's always great. I read a quote from him several years ago in which he says his greatest love was "dirty fuckin’ rock ‘n’ roll." I've always loved that quote.
This is his latest single as he keeps on rockin'.

Cage the Elephant - Ain't No Rest For The Wicked
Published May 8, 2009 @ 20:55 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS21 consideration. I'm submitting "Ain't No Rest For The Wicked" by Cage the Elephant.
Cage the Elephant sound a little White Stripish on this track, but I dig it. Maybe I dig it because it's White Stripish?
In Indian religious philosophies the elephant is a symbol of strength and wisdom, representing good energy rather than negativity. Hence, this band wanted to cage the elephant. Now you know the rest of the story.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Zero
Published April 29, 2009 @ 08:58 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS21 consideration. I'm submitting "Zero" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
The best new album I've been spinning this week belongs to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. There are several hooky singles oozing out of It's Blitz, including "Zero", a song they recently performed on Saturday Night Live.
I found it interesting that they went with "Maps" as their second tune on SNL. "Maps" was on SLS11 which means it's six years old now. It's still fantastic, btw. When "Zero" makes the cut for SLS21, it will be the Yeah Yeah Yeahs fourth appearance.

k-os - Burning Bridges
Published April 26, 2009 @ 14:21 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS21 consideration. I'm submitting "Burning Bridges" by k-os.
Did you know Kevin Brereton chose the moniker k-os because it stands for Knowledge Of Self? I'm always unsure whether it's supposed to be typed k-os or K-OS. I see both all over the place.

Silversun Pickups - Panic Switch
Published April 20, 2009 @ 13:44 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS21 consideration. I'm submitting "Panic Switch" by Silversun Pickups.
"Lazy Eye" was one of my favourite songs of 2007. "Panic Switch" is no "Lazy Eye", but it's that cool Silversun Pickups sound that'll hook you.

Metric - Gimme Sympathy
Published April 13, 2009 @ 16:42 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS21 consideration. I'm submitting "Gimme Sympathy" by Metric.
I like Emily Haines. She went to Etobicoke School of the Arts, a breeding ground of sorts for cool Canadian music. If you took some time to chart it, you could link Metric, Broken Social Scene and Stars back to ESA.
"Gimme Sympathy" is their latest single. It would be the sixth Metric tune to appear on SLS.

I'm submitting a song for SLS21 consideration. I'm submitting "Laces Out" by Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker.
I've already confessed that I love the sound of USS. I really do. It's right up my alley.
I've seen them live a couple of times and I've enjoyed everything I've heard from them. "Laces Out" is the latest single and a shoe-in for SLS21.

City and Colour - The Girl
Published March 20, 2009 @ 11:55 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS21 consideration. I'm submitting "The Girl" by City and Colour.
My wife doesn't understand how I can enjoy Slipknot and a tune like this, back-to-back. I can head bang with the best of them, and turn on a dime to chill to the sweet sound of Dallas Green. Hell, that's what he does, switching from Alexisonfire to City and Colour and back.
I'm digging this track. Half way through, it speeds up just a little, but it stays sweet. If this makes SLS, it will be City and Colour's third appearance. Alexisonfire has made it twice.

Tragically Hip - Love is a First
Published March 19, 2009 @ 19:24 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour, The Tragically Hip
I'm submitting a song for SLS21 consideration. I'm submitting "Love is a First" by The Tragically Hip.
I wasn't sure I liked "Morning Moon", the first song I heard from the new Tragically Hip album. This tune, however, sounds great. I can't get enough of it. It's a great choice for the first single from We Are The Same.
If fellow Hip fans recognize the lyrics, you heard them in Gord's rant in the middle of the song "Fully Completely" on the DVD That Night in Toronto. I was there at the ACC that night, and coincidentally named my review "That Night in Toronto".
