Them Crooked Vultures - New Fang
Published November 19, 2009 @ 20:14 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS22 consideration. I'm submitting "New Fang" by Them Crooked Vultures.
Let's see... singing this song is some guy named Josh Homme. The bassist and keyboardist is a guy named John Paul Jones. And on drums? Some dude named Dave Grohl.
Did that get your attention?

I'm submitting a song for SLS22 consideration. I'm submitting "1901" by Phoenix.
I friggin' love this song. In fact, the entire Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix album it comes from is stellar.
If you're digging this tune like I am, download the MP3.

Metric - Sick Muse
Published October 11, 2009 @ 14:00 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS22 consideration. I'm submitting "Sick Muse" by Metric.
"Sick Muse" would be Metric's 7th song to make it onto an edition of SLS. I like this tune, and because Metric gets it, I'm able to embed a high quality version of the official video without fear it will be removed from YouTube. As a result, more people will see this ad for Metric's excellent Fantasies album and their live gigs. I saw them this summer and they're great, check them out.

Death Cab For Cutie - Meet Me On The Equinox

I'm submitting a song for SLS22 consideration. I'm submitting "Meet Me On The Equinox" by Death Cab For Cutie.
DCFC wrote this song for New Moon, the second fim in the Twilight series. I won't hold that against them.
Sure that means DCFC is about to get discovered by every girl between the ages of 12 and 14, girls between the ages of 12 and 14 love the Twilight series and everything the Twilight series touches, but this is a good tune, and even girls between the ages of 12 and 14 are allowed to dig a good tune now and then.

Weezer - (If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To
Published September 26, 2009 @ 21:00 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS22 consideration. I'm submitting "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To" by Weezer.
Back in the day, I was a much bigger Weezer fan than I am today. I still like 'em, but I no longer need to see them live. I like this new single, though.
Is it me or are Weezer singles getting longer titles these days?
Silversun Pickups - Substitution

I'm submitting a song for SLS22 consideration. I'm submitting "Substitution" by Silversun Pickups.
Dangerbird Records gets it. Not only do they make their bands' music videos available on YouTube in HD, but they actually allow folks like me to embed it onto our sites.
Dangerbird Records, an independent record company located in Silverlake, CA, actually wants people to see music videos, which are essentially ads for the album and live shows. Oh, and the tee shirts and hoodies and DVDs and everything that comes with band worship.
By doing so, Dangerbird Records encourages the sharing of their bands' videos, controls the quality of the video being shared, because we're all sharing their HD version, and keeps fans happy, because they're not shut out of sharing the love. I'll never understand why many major labels disable embedding.
It's also a good song and video. Bonus!

Alice in Chains - Check My Brain
Published September 19, 2009 @ 10:20 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS22 consideration. I'm submitting "Check My Brain" by Alice in Chains.
I'm a big Alice in Chains fan. I once tried to rank my ten favourite bands of all-time and Alice in Chains came in at #5. When I assembled my 20 desert island albums, Dirt was a shoe-in.
Layne Staley's been gone for seven years now, and he's been replaced by a guy who sounds eerily like him. I can vouch for that, having seen Alice in Chains in concert with new lead singer William DuVall a couple of years back. They've since recorded a new album, and this is the lead single.
It's pretty good.

I must confess, I play Questamation all the time and I play it very, very loud. I play it and Welding the C:/ as a combo. A delicious Parkdale combo.

Kings of Leon - Notion
Published August 23, 2009 @ 17:27 in SLS ~ Smells Like Sour
I'm submitting a song for SLS22 consideration. I'm submitting "Notion" by Kings of Leon.
Kings of Leon are an interesting example of a band "breaking out" with their fourth studio album. Few of us could have named a single KOL song prior to the release of Only by the Night, a hit-laden album if there ever was one.
I'm sure there are Kings of Leon die-hards jumping off the band wagon now that the masses have discovered them. It's the REM syndrome. You love a band's indie success and turn your back on them when everyone else agrees with you.
Hate the game, not the player. "Notion" is another killer single from Kings of Leon's Only by the Night, an album that now belongs to mass society.
