William GoldmanWilliam Goldman was 87. He won two screenwriting Oscars, for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and All the President's Men and my heart for writing The Princess Bride.

This was a bit of a bummer (although he had a full life). "Butch & Sundance" is one of my all-time favourites. And, "All The President's Men"...damn. Great writer.

Goldman was a creative and brilliant man.

"The Princess Bride" was the first movie that I decided was worth buying, so I did - on VHS. Years later, it was my first movie on DVD. (I have not bought subsequent versions.)

There are likely millions out there who know nearly the whole script line by line. Inconceivable.
