Goody, I'm first. My Orioles lost again last night. That sucks. Well, Chris Davis had a homer again and Adam Jones homered, but another fricken lost for my Orioles. My Indians and Diamondbacks didn't play last night. Well, my Cavs will win game 2. Yes, the Cavs are the best and they will repeat. I just know they will.

Of course there's someone who can defend Trump - the victim of the biggest smear campaign in American history. I'll be the first to admit that his management style breeds chaos and there's inconsistencies in some of the things he says, but as far as the more serious allegations go, let's review:

1. Campaign collusion with Russia? Absolutely no evidence, total hearsay by his political opponents, and a convenient way to a) absolve Hillary of her loss and b) delegitimize Trump.

2. Interference with Comey's investigation? All Trump said was that he hoped Comey could "let it go." OF COURSE he wants Comey to let it go! He never ordered a halt to the investigation, he merely made an off-hand, off-the-record remark. And there was bipartisan support for Comey's firing for months.

3. Revealing classified info to Russia? Last time I checked, America and Russia are both fighting against ISIS (albeit in a twisted way) in Syria. Military allies always share intelligence, and the USA and Russia have been cooperating in Syria for years. And the info Trump allegedly shared was about ISIS plots to kill innocents, something Russia ought to know. What's the problem here? Next...

Do not fall for the out-of-control media spin on this Presidency. They will denigrate and delegitimize at every turn. Trump will repair America's awful Obama-era foreign policy, (hopefully) improve healthcare if Congress can agree, and dramatically lower taxes. Don't fall victim to the outside noise the DC political-media machine is creating. Trump's not perfect, and he's his own worst enemy, but he's not the horrible monster he's made out to be. Not by a long stretch.

One good thing about Trump is that if there was ever a sitting President who would let slip that they've got dead E.T's in some airforce hangar, it's him.

May 19, 2017 @ 12:27 PM

Ben V

Thanks for the laugh Justin.

There are detailed facts that counter all 3 of your points, but you've shown before in your defence of all things Rob Ford and Harper that it will fall on deaf ears. Perhaps it's the tweets that Trump put out before he was president that counter show him as a massive hypocrit now.

I guess I didn't realise the path to prosperity for the US was rolling back environmental protocols to allow for dumping sewage into streams and bringing back the use of lead laced bullets in hunting. I was horribly wrong clearly.

Onto flat earth theories and believing the sun revolves around the earth and the moon is made out of cheese.

It appears that NAFTA is going to be amended. Why isn't Justin Trudeau not publicly stating what Canada wants and needs from the new agreement?

If Trudeau wants Canadians to feel that he has some sort of plan, cancelling the summer recess would be a good start.

There are plenty of beaches near Ottawa that Trudeau can take shirtless selfies at.

So, here in Toronto the 30 + temps Wed/Thursday was nothing more than a weather fart.
Looking at the next 10 days ,not going to be over 18 c on any day.

Two months from now people will be asking "Where were you when the great weather fart of 17 happened "

George almost did!

To your point, before Jesse hit 40, it wasn't uncommon for the Blue Jays HR leader to have 26 or 27 dingers.

May 19, 2017 @ 2:40 PM

The Voice of Reason

Mike, I am just amazed that 40 led the league. I recall that George Foster hit 50 once for the Reds. I was too young to appreciate it, but that number was referenced quite a bit until banging 50 became the norm.

Well, it's good to see that dissenting political opinions around here are equated with being a flat-earther along with suggestions of a mental defect. Do the 44% of Americans that approve of Trump according to the Rasmussen poll released today also have mental issues? I certainly hope not.

At least summer weather's finally here and the Jays ended their losing streak. Two more things to smile about besides the Trump Presidency :- )

Way to cherry pick your polls. The main ones are all very clear about Trump's approval rating. http://www.gallup.com/poll/201617/gallup-daily-trump-job-approval.aspx

Let me ask you this...

If it's proven Trump fired Comey to cease the investigation into his ties to Russia (and every day there's more mounting evidence), what should happen to Trump?

May 19, 2017 @ 3:38 PM

Rob J

Trump's best 2 days in office so far after 4 months were when he pretended to drive a 'weally weally big twuck' and when he essentially made health insurance unaffordable for millions (including many of his own voters).

When does all the winning start??

May 19, 2017 @ 3:51 PM

@ TVOR re: NAFTA - You nailed this one. But our PM wants to be able to take off every Friday as it is. Work over the summer? Were you smoking with him (and his 4:20 friends Gerald Butts and the Emerys)?

Apart from the two countries' economies being even more intertwined than they were before the FTA and NAFTA, Canada has practically no leverage, let alone trump (no pun intended) card to play. Not even oil/energy. Even as Trump handed over the presidential authorization for Keystone XL to proceed (across the Canada-U.S.) border, the Americans have Canada by the short and curlies on oil, as they know very, very well that we have almost zero ability to export our energy anywhere but the U.S. We can't even ship oil across our own country!

Should we reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, especially for transportation? Of course, but it seems that only Canada is stupid enough to import billions of barrels of oil from such lovely, ethical, human rights respecting countries like Saudi Arabia and even discuss and consider options such as "leave it permanently in the ground". Oil use will continue for as long as there is oil - and humans no longer have a need for plastic and all the newest super-fabrics that have oil in them (not just the senior in the category: polyester). We all need a better balance in the discussion.

As it stands now, Canada has a couple of jokers in their hand with not enough good cards to play, and I don't see much competence in the politicians on our side. Hopefully there are some seasoned bureaucrats on the job.

@ all Trumpians

How is the hero you've likely never praised ever before last year (despite him being in the public eye since the 1980s) a conservative?? His harshest critics are neocons and fiscal cons and has a lower approval rating than his vote percentage which means those who were conned are realizing it, albeit 6 months too late.

He donated $ to Democrats until he realized that contesting a black president's place of birth and wishing death on Muslims with pig's blood-soaked bullets would parachute him into relevance.

Again I ask: "When does the winning start??"

I'm glued to the non fake American media. That means no FOX and in this week of bombshell news, the two latest stories that broke today are :

1. Trump told the Russians he met with the day after he fired Comey that the pressure is now off him as he has just fired the "nutjob" who is leading the Russian investigation. The two Russian officials were the foreign minister and ambassador to US.

2. A high official in the Trump White House is a "person of interest" being investigated.

2. A high official in the Trump White House is a "person of interest" being investigated.

The person who is of interest is a current high official in the Trump White House and that's in addition to the two former Trump officials being investigated namely Flynn and Manafort.

Sportsnet has a Stanley Cup playoff commercial out starring some former hockey legends. I was disappointed that two of them are confirmed wife abusers and said as much in a comment on the Sportsnet website. In response, my comment and follow up were disabled. As these acts are a matter of public record it's disheartening when a major player in the Canadian sports media market chooses to suppress a comment due to it's uncomfortable validity. As expected, my request for an explanation went unanswered. I'll remember this next time I get into a holier than thou mood when discussing the proclivities of journalism in our neighbours to the south.

Well, how about those Cavs. That's great. They really clobbered the Celtics. This is because the Cavs are the best. They're winning the championship this year again. I can feel it. That was such an awesome game and tomorrow's game will be just like yesterday's and they'll close it out on Tuesday. How about those Orioles. Great to win that extra inning game and Wellington Castillo homers. Wellington Castillo is great. How about those Indians. Another win. Homers were by Lonnie Chisenhall, Edwin Encarnacion and Jason Kipnis. Wonderful win. How about those Diamondbacks. That was a big win with David Peralta home run and also Jake Lamb hit a couple. It was a great sports night. Yes, the Cavs are winning the championship. We can have a party.
