Am I first?
"Habs lose!". Really Mike? Your a Leaf fan and bragging about the Habs losing a game?
Paaalease! You should be better than that Michael. :)

@Boomer

Just a fun little tweet. When I'm really serious about something, I take it here for a full entry!

(But I was pleased to see the Habs lose last night... sorry!)

Anyone following the "Parking Ticket Guys" post?

Michael Lowe (so he claims) going back and fourth with people about allegedly scamming them.

Dear Blue Jays game operations,

Please refrain from encouraging 35,000 kids at yesterday's school day matinee game to screech their god damn heads off for minutes by plastering the word SCREAM on your big ass jumbotron.

This is especially horrifying to my ear canals when an entire section of these sugar'd up yard apes is directly behind me.

Having said that, it was refreshingly delightful when i decided to leave the game a bit early. As I walked up the aisle, I SOUNDED MY BARBARIC YAWP by issuing my own brand of scream towards an unsuspecting 100 or so children. Popcorn flew, turtle heads emerged and jimminy crickets did I scare the fuck out of those kids.

That is all.

Great Berger podcast. The discussion in the comments was pretty great, too.

I think there is more anti-semitism at play than some people want to admit.

Dear Mr. @Ryan G....ahem...

You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch...

Thant is all. ;)

@ Rob I am. It's laughable. Broken record type stuff.

Also, I liked that tweet Mike posted about the Habs losing. I unliked it and liked it again just for Cheryl.

:)

Now if Boston could get their ass in gear and beat Ottawa I would be a happy man.

@Al The Royal Pain

I prefer the term carmudgeon.

Trust me when i say i wasn't the only one perturbed by the constant screaming. And once the kids got that initial green light, it was open season so it was ongoing well after the promo on the board ended.

It's great that they have school days and such - after all, these are the future ticket 'n beer buying fans, but most kids don't even watch the game and get all squirrelly, disturbing those who do. The kids in my aisle came in and out many many times just so they could go ask Charlie in the other row what level of Zelda they were on. And at one point, about 20 kids in the opposite side of the stadium decided to turn on their cell phone flashlight and wave it about. That prompted almost every other kid in the stadium to do the same thing for about 1/2 hour. The PA announcer had to step in and tell people to turn off their flashlights since it is completely distracting to the players. Our team sucks right now. We don't need iphone lights in their eyes to make things worse.

It's not that I dislike children. It's just that I think Shoppers Drug Mart should sell small blow darts that you can use to sedate them temporarily.

But I will say this... in all sincerity... I like the cut of your jib.

April 21, 2017 @ 10:26 AM

Beatts

Thank you. That's nice to hear.

My wife always said my jib was cut far too short for her liking.

April 21, 2017 @ 10:32 AM

Ryan G

"Cut of your jib - Refers to one's general appearance or personality, as in I don't like the cut of Ben's jib. In the 17th century the shape of the jib sail often identified a vessel's nationality, and hence whether it was hostile or friendly. The term was being used figuratively by the early 1800s, often to express like or dislike for someone."

This comment from Mike reminds me of a butter and egg man I once knew. He often deserved to cop a mouse since he was quite often a nose bagger, and man oh man he just wouldn't shut his sauce box.

I feel like this conversation will eventually turn into old school gangster slang.

“Say, what’s coming off? You had the heebie jeebies last night, see? I thought you were gonna’ snap your braces! One minute you were taking a gander at that oater, and before I knew it you were on the lam, your peepers were pie tins! Then you went scorching!”

The Voice of Reason

Just caught an article where Leftist Activists Disrupt Michigan Town Hall, because of the issue separating church and state.

I, for one, hope liberals/Democrats keep this obnoxious behavior up. I think they're turning people off more and more.

I read their social media postings during the Democrat Convention, when the Bernie Bros chronicled the underhanded things the Democrat Establishment did to hurt Bernie and help Hillary.

I've read what some of the protesters have said about their ANTIFA's behavior at riots being so out of control, and so cowardly (when they break and run, they run over each other in a mad dash to get to safety) that some of the protesters (not the most rabid) are getting turned off.

So, I say, "Fine!" The more angry, bitter and obnoxious they are, the more they are going to lose elections and support.

April 21, 2017 @ 2:56 PM

Ben

@ The Voice of Reason: Where was that article? On infowars?

You must have amnesia surrounding some of the things that happened after Obama was elected. Peruse google images for the race baiting that was going on then. Or perhaps the rise of the tea party. They did the exact same things the democrats are doing now.

I'm a big proponent of free speech so and love a good argument. So I don't condone what's been going on at Berkley with their protests, but the Michigan town hall was open season. Especially as the right wing states are ignoring that part of separation of church and state and pushing through legislation in favour of church views.

As for in party fighting, did you forget about what was going on inside the republican party before Donald Trump was elected? The only difference being we don't have their emails because the Russians weren't working for the democrats and hacking the republicans.

I've listened to the first 30 minutes of the Berger podcast and it is great stuff. I also enjoyed Bob MacKenzie and Brian Williams, finding Brian to be the more open of the two. Both were informative and great story tellers, but Bob seemed guarded.

We have classic prairie weather. I could have worn shorts today and yet later this weekend it may snow. I did insult Mother Nature by putting my boots and coat away, though I used the lame excuse that I didn't wash them yet.

I really do want to see some of the Canadian-based NHL teams advance to the next round. I've never had the mentality of "I love xxx team so I have to hate yyy team". If the remaining four Canadian teams advance, I'll be happy.

What guests can we look forward to over the next few weeks, Mike?

I'm traveling, 6 cities, 7 days, 7 flights. So I plan on binging on Toronto Mike podcasts:
downloaded 12:36, Khamisa, Mckenzie, Williams, Murphy and Hayes.

A suggestion for future guest: Pat Park, ex Leaf PR/Media guy. He's still in Toronto.

Cheryl

Well, I couldn't find this open Mike yesterday. Now I find it. I don't know why you hide them. My Habs are going to win in seven. Good that the Caps won last night. It will be Caps in six. Today the Bucks will win and tomorrow my Cavs will win. Baseball was great. My Orioles won. That's great. Dylan bundy pitched great and Manny machado hit a home run. My Orioles are still in first. Also my Indians are still in first where they belong. Great shutout by Corey Kluber and home run by Brandon Guyer. My Diamondbacks also had a great win as well, but my Diamondbacks are only in second place. Well, my Orioles and Indians are in first place where they belong.

April 22, 2017 @ 5:50 AM

Cheryl,

Look up. Even Blind Dave found it..

;)

April 22, 2017 @ 10:06 AM

I understand though. Sometimes with Montreal fans you need to draw a map.. ;)

April 22, 2017 @ 10:07 AM

All in good fun though :)

I hope most of your teams do well this year

The Voice of Reason

Fun Fact:

While it’s hardly an exact science, ESPN has found a largely effective tool in measuring the over-all value for fans of each team among the big four (NHL, NBA, MLB and NFL) in North American professional sports. Their annual list takes into account things like titles, talent, affordability and bang for your buck. Given the high cost of tickets to see a losing team, it’s no surprise that the Leafs have ranked dead last in three of the past four years. As ESPN notes, “No franchise in the four major sports leagues charges more for delivering less.”

Been checking out the MuchMusic book after finally listening to the Christopher Ward Toronto Mike'd. Lots of great stuff. There are a lot of characters from the Queen Street music scene who would make interesting interview guests - a guy like Gordon Deppe from the Spoons (who released a book last year) have been in the middle a lot of great things over the past 25 years.

Let's see....

Lou Schizas visits soon, as does Retrontario and Stormin' Norman Rumack.

Also, Alex Pierson and Ben Ennis...

And a few other tricks are up my sleeve... going to try something new...

@Beatts

Ha ha. I should probably call myself (almost) Blind Dave, given that I have just enough vision in my left eye to read a very large font. The magnified word wrap in Firefox is a huge blessing for me.

@VoR

I agree, and one promising season does not make a successful team. The Leafs need to prove over the next decade that they can be competitive and have a real chance -- not a Toronto chance -- of making some noise in the playoffs.

With that said, I lived in Toronto in the early 90's when the Jays were champions and the Leafs were oh, so close. That was a blast of a time to be a Toronto sports fan but those times are, sadly, few and far between. I like what Shanahan & Co. are doing, and I am cynical in most things, not just sports.

April 22, 2017 @ 3:38 PM

That's an eclectic group of future guests, really pumped for Rumack, especially.

Time to hibernate.

Only reason the Rangers beat the Habs is cause of Lundkvist. Sometimes all you need is a hot goally. Pisses me off though. They should've won game 5 Thursday night but had to lose in overtime instead.
Oh well, there's always next year. Hopefully the Leafs can beat the Caps.

Rangers will lose to Ottawa in the next round and the Oilers are going duck hunting.

April 23, 2017 @ 2:31 AM

Can't sleep so pumped up about MY Rangers. My Rangers will play in the next series.Does not matter who they play MY Rangers will win.
Seems odd that the great Montreal Canadians this year will win the same amount of playoff games as The Toronto Maple Leafs. Hahahahahahahahah
Go MY Rangers.

April 23, 2017 @ 2:41 AM

Cheryl

That was heartbreaking. My Habs are gone. That's terrible. Why did they have to lose. They were leading 1 to 0 in the beginning. Oh well, Caps will win tonight. I don't know who will win the cup. Probably the Caps will do that, but I'll concentrate more on basketball and baseball. Well, basketball wasn't good yesterday either. The Bucks lost. That was not a good game. That's awful. Well, my Cavs are going to win today. Well, baseball was great. My Indians won big 7 to 0. Carlos Carrasco was amazing pitching eight innings. Lots of homers by Edwin Encarnacion, Michael Brantley and Jose Ramirez. My Orioles won as well. Jason Aquino is this young pitcher and he was really good. Homers were by Trey Mancini and Jonathan Schoop. My Diamondbacks also won. Jake Lamb again with another homer. Yasmani Tomas had two homers. My Indians and Orioles are in first place where they belong. My Diamondbacks have to get there but the Rockies are ahead of them. I can't believe my Habs are gone though.

April 23, 2017 @ 8:02 AM

collingwood dave

just thought I would check in to see how the Habs are doing..LOL..Oh well my Leafs, Rangers, Blues, Predators, Caps, Oilers, Ducks or Sharks will win the cup...I know they will....

April 23, 2017 @ 2:02 PM

chris

My. My,MY teams are losing why??
Cavs done in 7 this round also, sorry Cheryl.

April 23, 2017 @ 5:54 PM

Urooj Islam

Two Canadian teams in the second round and the Leafs could potentially make it three.

One of those years where the Rogers NHL deal doesn't look atrocious.
