Well, my Cavs won last night over my Suns. That was a good game. Two of my favourite teams. Hockey not so good. My Coyotes lost. Anyway, my Orioles just resigned my favourite player, Mark Trumbo. He's awesome. I'm first today. I heard nothing about the next steps, nothing more from the CNIB so I hope they're working on it.

My oldest turns 15 today. I told him we could go anywhere he wants for dinner tonight. He has chosen The Mandarin.

@Toronto Mike.

Mandarin's ok, but he is but a youngster and has not yet reached an age where he should be expected to choose finer fare. Being the lover of this town that you are, I suspect that will change over time. Although the situation's a bit different, this reminds me of some people who live in the suburbs, who then come to the big city for a night out and go to dinner at... Jack Astors.

On an unrelated note, when I grabbed BikeShare this morning, i found a wallet on the ground. When I got to work, I went throught it, pocketed the cash, and then looked for a phone number to call the owner. Ok ok there was no cash in it (because I put it in my pocket when i first found it). OK..no..there wasn't any money at all...annnnyway..I go through everything and I find a phone number and address. I streetview it and it's a few blocks from my house. So I call her and I tell her i could meet her at a nearby intersection. Incredibly, she says she doesn't know where that is. I then tell her i'll bring it to another street which is exactly 1 block to her home.....she doesn't know where that is either. By this point I'm growing impatient..her apartment building isn't too far from where I live so I say ok ok I'll bring it to your building tomorrow around noon. She says she'll be out, and was hoping I could bring it to her at 8am.

The wallet now swims with the fishes.

So, Kevin O'Leary wants to lead the Conservative party.

I hope that, unlike our neighbours to the south, Canadians (and specifically Tories) reject the notion that a poor-to-middling business career, some b-list reality TV experience, and a level of bluster exceeded only by insatiable ego, compose a suitable background for in a political leader.

I just read that Obamacare is more popular in the USA right now than Trump.

My boy having his birthday on a Friday is going to cost me. The Mandarin jacks up the prices on Friday, Saturday and Sunday!

Yes I read that on the C & L web site two days ago. They cite polls and we know the polls missed the mark on the last election but that was mostly in swing states. In terms of the Popular vote they were more or less correct. Also it's easier to poll approval ratings and healthcare than it was to poll electoral collage outcomes from the last presidentilal election.

Here's part of the report from the C & L web site:

Last night, Chris Hayes had some REALLY bad news for Republican members of Congress:

As pressure mounts for Republicans to come up with a replacement for Obamacare, Obamacare itself is actually enjoying record levels of popularity among the American people. according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal" poll, 45% of Americans now believe the Affordable Care Act was a "good idea" compared to 41% who think it was a bad idea -- the first time, we should note, since the law's passage in 2010 that more people approve than disapprove. If you're wondering why so many Americans have suddenly changed their minds about the law, look no further than a report just out from the Congressional Budget Office which found that a repeal plan like the ones Republicans have proposed would increase the number of people who are uninsured by 18 million in just the first year, with millions more losing coverage in the following years. All of which makes the job of replacing Obamacare a daunting task.

Saw your tweet that Andy Frost was going to be on the podcast. When is that one recording? Very excited for it!

Damn Mike. How did you pull that off? I thought Andy Frost had declined to be on the podcast. Anyway I'm definitely looking forward to that one.

Andy was coming over Monday, but he's got something else he has to do now. But he's definitely coming over and I'm hoping it's in the next few weeks.

Ann Rohmer is also visiting, but not until the Spring.

I'm not sure Andy ever said no, just said he was busy maybe? I know Derringer said no, but even he's warming up to the idea now.

It's going to be difficult for me to resist doing my Andy Frost impression for him... even though I know it's lousy.

I'm embarrassed to say that i picked Mandarin for my last birthday meal too LOL
No idea why really it's pretty bland even for canadian Chinese food. Well my 12 year old REALLY wanted to go as it was new for her so that was some incentive but really Not a great idea.

And yes it's fucking expensive.

To be honest I'd mostly prefer to stay home , BBQ wings and have a couple of beer. Maybe even GLB beer. :)

January 20, 2017 @ 3:41 PM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

@James Edgar

I made the mistake of telling him he could go anywhere he wants tonight. Maybe I should just be happy he didn't pick Harbour Sixty or something like that.

We're a family of six... 3 adults, one child (for another few months, anyway!), one $2 guy and one freebie.

Like an idiot, I didn't sign up the boy for the free birthday meal and now I see you can't do it the day of your birthday. Another catch there, though... you only get the free birthday meal if three other adults pay full price.

In happier news fender announced American Pro versions of The Jaguar and the Jazzmaster at the NAMM Show this week. other than some crazy expensive artist models Fender hasn't released American made versions in decades.

The Jaguar is the guitar Kurt Cobain prefered in the studio.
The jazzmaster is the Guitar the J Mascis From Dino Jr favours.

I would like one of each.
Not going to happen. Far too expensive but ... I can dream.

And the 2017 Strats and Teles are looking pretty nice too.. Also want one of each please.

In Fact the 2017's Gibsons , well the traditionals not the "HP" models are enticing too.

Ok Twist my arm one each of the heritage Cherry Burst LP Standard and a Cherry SG Standard to go with the Fenders please.

Of course I'll need an amp or two to go with those guitars.

I guess I'd better buy a 649 or something. :)

Rick C in Oakville

Mike, please don't do an Andy Frost impression. The poor guy has been mocked for years, and really probably doesn't need another presented to him.
I even heard Jeff Woods doing it on H&F this week.
Give him the best Toronto Mike interview full of Maple Leaf tidbits, and Q107 history. This is what will make a great interview, and not an uncomfortable impression. Just my 2 cents.
Have been on the road catching up on your Podcasts, only have Festivus with Elvis to go now. Really enjoyed Mirtle and Fitz-Gerald, sometimes having the 3 rd wheel creates a different back and forth, and never having heard Fitzy before was cool.
As for Anne that will be interesting, I think she might be playful with your retirement theme if played right.

January 20, 2017 @ 7:03 PM

Blind Dave

Mike, I'm with Rick C on this one. Please consider not doing the Andy impression. Your interviews are fresh and fun, you ask a lot of great questions, and you take angles not heard on "other" shows. :)

The Jesse & Gene show was amazing, and Rod is up next.

The snow is almost gone, and it is now +4 instead of -44. I can live with that for the rest of the winter! Not happening, unfortunately.

I won't do my Andy Frost impression for Andy. I think the only time I've done such a thing is when I did my "Make the final!" for Vic Rauter.

Andy Frost is an icon & best DJ still working.
I have personal ties with Andy through a mutual freind of our family & his relations with them. He called me years ago at home & I dropped the phone as saw his name calling. He talked about our family & played the song I requested on Psychedelic Sunday. Great voice still at Q107 & still should be doing Leaf games.

Well, good night for sports. How about those Nets. That was their best game ever and the Habs won again. Anyway, it was all good. The CNIB says that I will probably hear something next week about the job. I still don't have a date for work. Anyway, why are people sticking with Bell anyway? Primus is the best. You should all drop Bell or Rogers and get Primus.

January 21, 2017 @ 7:32 AM

@Torontomike
Do your Paul Morris impression for Mr. Frost instead.

January 22, 2017 @ 1:47 AM

Cheryl

Well, my Habs lost in overtime. That's no good. They got a point, but they should have won that game. My Habs are slumping. Well, my Coyotes won. That's great. My Suns won as well, but my Nets and Cavs lost. Why are my Cavs in a slump. They kept missing free throws. I have no idea how in the world you can miss a free throw. That's like a gift you get so how in the world can you miss it. Anyway, there is a Suns game tonight and hopefully they will play like last night and win. Football as well. Who cares. I mean Bill dropped the pool anyway. He says I'm not working so don't worry about it. I just hope my Ravens and Cardinals as well as Browns have a better season next season.

January 22, 2017 @ 7:45 AM

Yeah. The Coyotes actually managed to beat Tampa 5-1. I was surprised.

I was a little bummed out to read on twitter yesterday that Jill Colton is leaving CP24. I enjoyed seeing her on the channel and it looked like she had fun during the time she was on the morning shows. I also thought she was a shoe in for the weekend morning gig but I'm guessing part of her leaving is because she didn't get the job and didn't have much to do otherwise with no upward movement in sight.

January 22, 2017 @ 9:54 AM

Hey Mike, it is awesome you are getting Andy Frost for your podcast. I used to work at Sneakers bar in Newmarket and he did a Psychedelic Sunday night show there. He always gave a shout out to me in the kitchen. He is a really nice man but notoriously late.

January 22, 2017 @ 12:51 PM

H.o.E.

Is Ed The Sock still scheduled to be there in the next couple of weeks? (to promote his weekly YouTube show, I assume.)

Leave the impressions for Mike Richards, if and when he does another episode. He's been making vague threats about being back doing something again soon in 2017, but nobody seems to know what it's going to be. I don't know what led me to see this,

http://www.youtube.com/user/rps19/videos

but all it did was make me think of Mike Richards doing his "And here's how things look to Dick Spyte" fake commentary segments on The Fan morning show in the 1990s. Maybe few would recognize it now since Smyth has been retired for almost 20 years, but then again apparently Rich Little still earns a living by appearing at places like Fallsview doing his impressions of Richard Nixon, John Wayne, etc.

I remember your wisecrack that Ed The Sock is one of the few guests that doesn't have a problem with the low ceiling clearance in the basement studio! :) Just today I was reading this where Ed is featured and it was complimentary - I hadn't seen him around in anything and I last remember the 1010 Sunday evening show that him and his wife (well, not *Ed*'s wife) had hosted for a while.

January 22, 2017 @ 9:54 PM

Cheryl

Well, great basketball game last night. How about those Suns. They had an amazing fourth quarter. Goes to show you how they can turn it around and come back. I'm telling you and go and disagree with me, I don't care, but Kyle Lowry is a jerk. He goes and hits Brandon Knight in the head for no reason, gets kicked out of the game, serves him right. Anyway, the Coyotes score on Saturday was 5 to 3. I don't care about the football now that the pool is dropped. My Cavs and Nets will hopefully win tonight. Oh, Yordano Ventura died yesterday. You know him, that pitcher for the Royals. Maybe you guys don't like him, but it's really sad. Well, the CNIB should get back to me some time this week. I don't know when. Hopefully I get my job back.

I'm so mad. My Cavs lost last night and my Nets lost last night. That was no good at all. Basketball sucked and I am extremely worried about my Cavs. When will they win again? Why are they losing so much. My Coyotes did win last night though and hopefully my Habs and Suns will win tonight. Nothing from the CNIB yet. Anyway, hopefully something will happen soon.

That's not good. They should have won, but it was a buzzer beater and they fricken lost. Anyway, hope my Cavs and Nets win tonight. I need them to do that and I want my Cavs to stay in first place. I hope they can find their winning ways again.
