Leap Weekend Open Mike

microphoneThere's no such thing as a Leap weekend. I just made that up. Next week will include a February 29 and that's kinda special, right?

Use the comments of this entry to discuss anything you want. Be creative and earn Toronto Mike karma credits. Ok, there's no such things as Toronto Mike karma credits, either. I need to stop making shit up.

The Leafs need a goalie. Forget Rick Nash, that was never going to happen.

A goalie and a useful forward.

How many listeners do Humble and Fred really have?

I'm a fan and I liked what I heard, but I still can't get myself to listen - I get busy and forget.

On an average Wednesday how many unique listeners are we really talking about?

I love Ford Canada. I love Ford Canada. I love Ford Canada. I love Ford Canada. I love Ford Canada. I love Ford Canada. I love Ford Canada. I love Ford Canada.
Now ticket ME for the Auto Show! (- and hey, how 'bout a job.)

@Sam in Pickering

I'm not telling. Sorry...

@brad

Google Adsense picks the ads based on what I write. I guess "open" suggests open relationships or something... Cougar Life, yo! Click through and see what happens.

@CQ

Ford Canada gave me 4 tickets to the Auto Show but I've given them all away. The Ford Canada marketing folks are awesome.

Okay-- Marty Turco is just sitting at home waiting for the phone to ring and Burke could pick him up for a song. Get him signed and put him on the Marlies for a few games then bring him up. He has a lot to prove to a lot of people.

1. I use Firefox so I bypass most ads. Sorry, Mike!

2. That funny sound you hear is:

a. Iguanas falling out of the trees on cold Florida nights.

b. Your dumbass neighbour being a douche, again.

c. The sound of the puck hitting the mesh of the Leaf's net.

d. That blue maple leaf falling through the cracks in the ice, again.

Who has more vacations than John Derringer or Howard Stern?

Toronto Mike
February 24, 2012 / 14:32

@Boomer

I listen to Howard Stern each day.... you're right, lots of time off recently, but I thought that might be because of his America's Got Talent commitments.

I want a blog. Can you help?

The Leafs need a coach. Look at Ottawa and the impact that a real coach can have.

My Habs are worse than the Leafs. That's no good at all, but they are not doing well. This really sucks. Also my skating rink at Rosedale Park is closing. February 26 is the last day and then it's closed for the year. There's still winter left, but it's closing on the 26th. I used to hate skating, but my trainer got me to liking it and now I like it a lot.

So I'm at work and I'm heading over to this small area of the office that has a sink and a single microwave for heating up your lunch.

As I turn the corner I see there's another guy (who I don't know - it's a big company) who's about to stick his lunch into the microwave.

He notices that I too have my lunch that needs re-heating, so he asks me if I want to put mine in with his. At the same time.

I pause, feeling a little awkward at his question.

"Oh no problem", I say. "Go ahead. I'll just wait".

But he persists.

"Come on. I just have beef stew. It won't stink up your lunch."

So now I feel pressured, so I give in to his request and throw my burrito in with his stew, which inevitably leads to small talk while we wait for our lunches to warm up..together.

Now if I'm walking down a corridor at work and I see this guy he gives me a little smile and says hello, like we're best friends, because our intimate bond formed over exactly one minute and thirty seconds of microwave time.

To be honest, I feel a little dirty about the whole thing.

Maybe I should call HR, and they'll give me an HR version of those little dolls they give molested kids, so i can point to the spots where he touched me and made me feel bad.

You have problems that should be diagnosed. A stupid & sick
post. Seems like you don't have ANY friends.

February 24, 2012 / 18:40

RYAN! You, my sir, are the f'ing man. A very funny f'ing man.

Remember to throw in the old 'I felt uncomfortable in the workplace' bullshit - makes HR quiver.

Can't wait for some retard (yes, retard) to give you shit for even mentioning molessted kids and those dolls!

SO funny!

What's the nature of your uncomfortable workplace? Knowing that will make that hilarious post even funnier.

@ Liz

Nobody should EVER use the word retard as I regard it like the "N" word. My brother is "mentally challenged" with Down's Syndrome but is not at "retard".

There is a difference - this is 2012, not 1970.

This game sucks. My Habs are losing 3 to 0 after two periods. My Habs can't seem to score against the Capitols. This game sucks big.

@Cheryl
Habs cannot score enough goals on any ANY team.

Habs management sucks BIGGER.
I really feel sorry for the coach as put in a bad situation from his hiring. GM has to GO.

@Not Rick: Looks like his domain name has lapsed, but he will be on Humble and Fred in the next week or 2.
@Ryan, nice one!!
@Sam in Pickering: I listen every day in my car, the podcast makes it easy to listen even for 15-20 minutes, and I can jump in and out at anytime. Sure beats surfing the radio band with it's 30 second talking spots. I would suggest you give it a go, you won't be disappointed, this is the format that truly suits their style.

@Not Rick

Good question. Rick's a strange animal, and he just seemed to drop off the face of the earth.

I haven't heard from him in forever. I like the guy, but he's the most introverted public figure I've ever dealt with.

Rick, if you're out there, I'd be happy to help you get your blog back online.

Cheryl, have to admire you for your loyalty to the Habs. But then again I used to feel this way for the Leafs.

Didn't the Habs bomb the Leafs not too long ago?

This comment is about the link that you posted on twitter with regards to Zellers employees. While I feel for those who are losing their jobs. I wonder why do you think that Target is screwing them over? From what I understand Target has purchased the leases for properties, but did not actually purchase Zellers/HBC as a company. When the Zellers stores close, the stores no longer exist nor do the jobs associated with them. If someone (target) was to open a new business at the same address I fail to see what loyalty the new business would have to the employees of the previous business.

felix
February 25, 2012 / 14:41

@joel

If that's the case, then your point is well made. It would be a nice gesture to offer employment to the Zellers workers, but they are by no means obligated.

Leaf nation is in disarray. We lose Boyce to CBJ on waivers & nothing done to improve team to TRY to make the playoffs.
Burke always made moves before trade deadline & this year nothing. TOO many holes to fill, with goaltending #1 priority & a #1 or 2 centre.

Too much collusion with Wilson & Burke. Why did he sign Ronnie for another year & since signing the team has been in the tank. I'd LOVE to see the Jets beat out Leafs for final playoff spot as it would look great on Bettman (@$$h01e).

@4x4 Time - A perfect summary of why I do not fly with "You're welcome for flying with us" Air Canada. Dropped my Aerogold credit card, too, because Aeroplan points are not worth much to me anymore.

David has it right, and not just about the Firefox line.

@Ryan - Very funny. Your story is better than and makes me think of the radio ad where two guys are out in the cold waiting for the parking lot bus at the airport.

@RickC - but it took you too/how long to give up that loyalty.

As bad as things are for the TMLs, take solace that they are not the Blue Jackets, who have been rebuilding since they started. Regardless, I'll cheer for them while they get pummelled by the Blues in a couple of weeks at Nationwide. Hey, going to a game in Columbus is cheaper than going to the ACC, and a friend there has access to great seats (which are always easy to get - no need to wonder why).

Anyone wanting some good classic alt-rock to listen to tomorrow (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.), tune in to San Diego's 91X and click "listen live" for "Resurrection Sunday".

I realize Target isn't breaking a law here, and I see your point, but it still sounds pretty shitty.

Mary works cash at Zellers for 20 years, Target buys the store and Mary is canned. Sure, Marry can apply for a job at Target, and might get that job, but she starts as a day one employee, losing that 20 years.

Legal but shitty, IMHO.

I said it before - Leafs should have hired John Anderson as head coach.
I just checked. After a couple of NHL seasons with Atlanta, he is currently an assistant with Phoenix.
Anderson was a Leafs player for longer than a cup of coffee. He had a long-term winning record in the AHL as a coach (away from the Leafs organization). And he has never been part of a stable NHL team yet.
Although Phoenix is currently winning and are in the playoff standings.

Cheryl

yes, the Coyotes will be in the playoffs. They're my other favourite team. Too bad my Habs can't be there as well though. Go Habs.
