What's Wrong With Storm? (This Entry Will Bore You)

baseballI play for two teams in the RSPA. Some tell me this isn't allowed, but I got special permission from the commissioner. Besides, one team is in the Competitive division while the other one is Intermediate. There's no overlap.

That Comp team is Storm, formerly known as Raging Storm, and originally known as Hooray For Everything. The core of this team has been together for about a decade now, and we've been very successful. Just last season we made the finals of the highest co-ed division in the biggest slo-pitch league in West Toronto / Mississauga. Yes, we're getting tee-shirts that say that.

Something's very wrong this year. Last week, we were mercied, and we started to implode. Last night, up by six runs in the last inning, we coughed it up. Three errors did us in. We've lost six in a row.

Remember when Canada's hockey team finished poorly in the '98 Olympics? There were symposiums held to fix what ailed our men's hockey program. I'm thinking we need a symposium. We've got to fix this.

Something's wrong with Storm. I warned you this entry would bore you...

I'll take some of the blame as the last 2 games (especially the game before last) have been complete disasters for me. When I step out into the outfield, in the back of my mind I am constantly telling myself you can't make an error. I have to stop thinking about it and just play the game so next game I'm coming out drunk. Other then that I get the feeling the morale is down (I guess a losing streak will do that to a team). Maybe its time to change the team name back to Hooray For Everything? On second thought lets not. I'm sure if we can win a couple in a row(and I learn how to catch again) the old Storm will be back.

it's because you live in toronto. there's something in the water that makes all our teams stink.

mix one part Bev with one part cheerleader outfit and presto!, every dude will turn it up a notch trying to impress her, leading to a turn around in the season.

if that doesn't work, fold the team and move to winnipeg.

@AP

If you want to come to third base, I'll switch with you. Don't beat yourself up over the errors, you're over thinking it.

The morale issue is tied to the losing streak. As The Natural taught me, losing is a disease, yet curable. Let's cure this shit.

@Ryan G

I'm sure Bev would be up for that. We're still accepting applications from guys interested in dating Bev, btw.

Guys,

I think we really just need to go out and have fun again, our losing streak over the last few games has definitely made us all question what we are doing wrong and even over think things. It's just softball, we can all hit and catch the ball, but we are all trying to do too much to get that coveted W.

Overall, last night I thought we played a great game, in the last inning I think we got a little too comfortable with the lead. We all came out in the bottom of the 7th with a sense that our losing streak was over, we just have to remember that we gotta play a full game and earn that W.

I suggest we go back to the set lineup (and maybe not worry about hurting someone's feelings if they are batting last). I think we change the order around too much, let everyone hit where they good at hitting, get comfortable with where they are the rest will come.

We play 2 games against the Cardinals next week, let's all stay positive, heads in the game and have fun.....we'll get those W's back again!

Sacrifice a bucket of KFC. It worked for Pedro Cerrano.
