canada24/7 Wall St. has named "The Happiest Countries in the World". Canada finished in second place.

Canada scores extremely well in the majority of metrics used to calculate “well-being.” The country has the tenth greatest life expectancy of all OECD countries. Furthermore, 88% of people in Canada report being in “good health,” compared to the OECD average of 69%. Although this is a subjective measure, it is “a good predictor of people’s future health care use,” according to the OECD. Education is also exceptional in the country. Eighty-seven percent of the population have received a high school degree or more, compared to the OECD average of 73%. In addition to this, the country has one of the highest literacy rates in the world. Canada is also relatively safe, with the lowest rate of reported assaults. The country’s homicide rate, while higher than many other OECD countries, is still lower than the OECD average.

Are you happy?

Well, I would be happier if the postal strike was over. It hasn't even hit Toronto now and I haven't gotten any mail last week or today and I'm expecting stuff to come. Who knows how long it will be held up. Just legislate them back to work already.

Yes, very happy as I live in Toronto for 40+ years & moved to Bolton for a change of neighborhoods. I'm glad our family did move, but my heart is still Toronto & always will be.

@ Cheryl
With my job we do alot of work with Canada Post & they don't get updates until the day before for no mail. The people I deal with want this situation over NOW & they have said if Toronto is going to be next it could last for a WEEK just to make a statement.

Well, that's not good news for the strike to hit Toronto and last for a week. I'm telling you it's ridiculous. They should legislate them back to work. Why not make Canada Post an essential service like the TTC.

Instead of legislating the posties back to work or giving them the essential service "screw the taxpayer over with an arbitrator settlement ", let UPS, DHL, or the Post offices own Purolator carry letter mail at competitive rates and watch CUPW scramble then. Wake up and realise this isn't the 60's, when apostie had some bargaining clout. Hardly notice the disruption personally , just not as many trips to the blue bin this week to dump the junk mail Canada Post delivers very efficiently.

Back on topic, Canadians work hard to be inclusive and the benefits of this for all, as much as some people at the Star think otherwise. I travel regularly and it's amazing how many people recognize this about Canada, we should be proud.

Yes, there are couriers. The problem is that people don't want to use them. I wanted to order something and I asked if it could be sent some other way besides Canada Post. He says that it can't. It's stores who are stubborn and won't go away from Canada Post. The US postal workers aren't allowed to go on strike so it should be the same here.

Problem with UPS et al is that they're not designed with volume in mind. Sure, the person who sends the occasional package or letter can use them but what about bills? That's where the real volume is and thus what's really hurting Canada Post is electronic billing.

Well, doesn't look like this stupid strike is going to end any time soon. The thing is that why can't all the members vote on the final offer. That's the way to go. Who knows. Maybe it would be accepted if all the members voted on it. The union is dictating to them that the offer is no good.
