pad and penDog days of summer and all, I've got nothing to say.

Consider this an open thread. What's on your mind? What do you want to talk about?

What's happend to Humble (HH)? He's not been on twitter in quite sometime. Does he have new blog somewhere or is he just too busy these days?

I actually talked to Humble on the phone this week about him and Twitter.

First he had his blog, but then decided to ditch his blog for Twitter.

Then he discovered Facebook, and ditched Twitter for Facebook.

Today he's active on Facebook, but interested in coming back to Twitter. I think the return of @humhow is imminent!

Meanwhile, if you want to hear from Humble Howard, friend him on Facebook.

What do you think about Stephen Strasburg?

Steve
August 27, 2010 / 11:03

Will the Jays finish ahead of Boston in the AL East? I still think they might.

Toronto Mike
August 27, 2010 / 11:20

The Strasburg Tommy John need is way ahead of schedule! Like a comet, he burned so bright for such a brief period of time. I hope he can come back.

I don't think we'll catch Boston, unfortunately. But wait 'til next year!

Sorry ..not sports, radio or politics related...I can get some decent TV over the air in Toronto (my neighbour has it). I would ditch my current provider if I can supplement some of the programming by way of the internet. What I will miss, is TSN for leaf games, and a couple of kids channels for my 5 year old.. does anybody have experience with this?
Thanks !

None of my business, but how you get paid doing this?

What do you think of the Toronto Mayoral situation? Are you excited about Mayor Ford?

Toronto Mike
August 27, 2010 / 15:21

@Billie

This is a hobby that throws me a little extra cash and gives me a little fun. It doesn't pay the mortgage, but I get a cheque from Google every month and $ in my PayPal account for selling the odd textual link for SEO purposes.

@Joe

There's plenty of time for Rob Ford to implode and for the sensible Torontonians to wake up and smell the coffee. I'm not worried...

1) I'm done with summer and can't wait for October
GO CANUCKS GO!!!

Hope to battle the Leafs in the final...

2) How come there aren't more shoes washing up on our coast?

3) Go back to 1)

getting back to your CNE days...was it true that they paid people to walk around with those huge stuffed prizes or is that just urban legend?

Steve

Rick2,

If you're looking to see the Leafs, I believe Mapleleafs.com will stream you games for a fee, and the CBC sports site streams pretty much all of their hockey broadcasts online now. there's also TSN broadband. You should also check out justin.tv, people often stream sports and lots of other stuff there. Oh, and torrents are your friend. Just make sure you're using Peer Block when you're torrenting, as it is also your friend...the friend who will try to protect you from prying eyes that need not be looking at you.

If you could be one flavour of crayon, which would it be?

Steve
August 27, 2010 / 18:10

How can a person possibly want to be done with summer? Are you nuts? That means winter is on the way, and that's something I just cannot stand for!

Steve
August 27, 2010 / 18:11

The term flavour of crayon is so weird to me. I mean really, they all kinda taste the same.

Rob Ford will not be the Mayor. George Smitherman will be the Mayor. Yes, he will. I told you I'm voting for him.

As for hockey, go Habs and Coyotes. The Leafs don't have a chance at all. Habs and Coyotes to the finals.

As for baseball, who really cares. It's a boring game. It's so long and slow.

Why did you call me snot rag as a kid?

twins from bolton
August 27, 2010 / 19:07

Both kids are moving out this year to University's out of town (Ottawa & Laurier) next week.
After 18 1/2 years a changing lifestyle & broke. I need donations for their fees.

Twins will probably miss each other than we do after so many years.

Why did the Leafs today trade for another Dfenseman?? I don't understand. Where are the forwards??

Cheryl
August 27, 2010 / 19:53

Who cares. I hate the Leafs. They'll lose. You'll see. Habs will beat the Leafs on October 7. Yes, baseball is really a boring game. It's so slow. It takes forever for a game to finish. George Smitherman is the best. He will be our new mayor.

Toronto Mike
August 28, 2010 / 00:52

@Wayner

I think that was an urban legend. We sure never paid anyone to do that.

When was the last time a band actually got an encore that wasn't planned? A legitimate request from the crowd versus a "We want to hear our favorite song you saved till the end so we would clap and stomp our feet till you came back and then played it" encore.
Think about it. The encore is a farce and the fact that bands actually reserve some of their best shit for the end on purpose is a sorry commentary on the state of entertainment today. At least that's what I think after one beer and a shot of scotch!

Toronto Mike
August 28, 2010 / 19:57

@Howard

I agree. The encore is a farce. Every band plans for one, in fact, only the Smashing Pumpkins come to mind as a headliner that didn't come out for one.

Some bands, and you know who they are, are guaranteed to come out twice - and they hold on to certain tracks b/c there's never any doubt they're coming back for the 2nd encore.

A band's sure-fire closer is always kept in the can until the final encore.

Cheryl
August 28, 2010 / 20:40

Smashing Pumpkins? Never even heard of that group. Sounds like heavy metal, yuck. The best rock stars around these days and forever are Bob Seger and John Mellencamp. Just found out John Mellencamp has a new album out and I just ordered it.

Habs are really going to beat the Leafs. Bring on hockey. The only sport that's around right now is baseball. Baseball is so boring.

Toronto Mike
August 28, 2010 / 21:10

@Cheryl

You've really never heard of the Smashing Pumpkins? For realz?

Cheryl
August 29, 2010 / 07:56

No, I honestly never heard of the Smashing Pumpkins. If they're heavy metal, I wouldn't like them. I like lots of modern country and some classic rock. Go Habs and Coyotes. The Leafs will lose.

Paul
August 29, 2010 / 08:31

Sigur Ros, from Iceland, won't come back. We tried that once, but they came upstairs to the hotel room and told us they were still applauding and we'd better come back (we were playing IN the hotel). Have you checked out "Trawnta" on Daily Motion btw. All the public live music from T.O. is there. Write about that!

Toronto Mike
August 29, 2010 / 10:45

Smashing Pumpkins were rock, but pretty mainstream. I'm just surprised you hadn't heard of them.

I don't listen to modern country, but I've heard of Keith Urban.

Sammi
August 29, 2010 / 12:56

@Toronto Mike....I think Toronto has already woken up and smelled the coffee.....and will vote Rob Ford in as mayor. If we have one more term of David Miller or anyone like him (Smitherman)...we may as well close up shop. We will be bankrupt.

Cheryl
August 29, 2010 / 12:57

Hi. Maybe I heard the name, but haven't heard Smashing Pumpkins. don't care for Keith Urban. I really like Lady Antebellum though, Rascal Flatts, Sean Hogan, Sugarland, lots of others.

I just finished checking the websites and profiles of my local Ward's candidates - for those with websites. Yuck is a good word.

Cheryl
August 29, 2010 / 18:02

George Smitherman is really going to be the new mayor. He'd make a good one. Your problem is you don't know him. Meet him in person and he's the nicest man you ever met. He doesn't want to hurt anyone. He's going to win. He's going to be our new mayor. Face the fact.

Sammi
August 29, 2010 / 18:35

@Cheryl....I'm guessing you think Miller was a good mayor too.

Cheryl
August 29, 2010 / 19:50

No, Miller is not a good Mayor, but I know Smitherman would be a good one. He was my MPP. I met him. Believe me, he's one of the nicest guys around. Sure, he's going to win. It will happen. rob Ford won't win. Trust me. You guys don't know George Smitherman. He's very nice. He's great. Of course, he's going to win.

David
August 30, 2010 / 00:06

Cheryl, wake up and smell the caffeine girl, Smitherman was involved with the E-Health fiasco and overspending while with the lying and cheating Ontario Liberals, Dalton (Premier Dad) has just endorsed him and that is worse than getting a kiss from Grandma at Christmas time, Ford all the way...and after the election is over we'll all be driving one!

As for baseball it's a beautiful sport, it's summer, hot dogs and beer...

The Leafs might even surprise you all, we are definitely going to make a play-off spot, because that's the way...uh huh uh huh Halak it!!!

Cheers/David

Joe
August 30, 2010 / 09:31

@Cheryl...Why am I not surprised that you would be wrong about the winning mayoral candidate when you support the Habes...That just shows how out of touch you really are...The Leafs will beat Montreal on the 7th and any other time they play this year. Montreal got lucky last year in the playoffs but, in order to get lucky in the playoffs, you have to be there - a place where they won't be this year. too many other teams in the East have made themselves better while Montreal has only taken another step backwards. Go Leafs Go!

Hector
August 30, 2010 / 10:33

@ Cheryl....He spent over a BILLION dollars on e-health and it is still not up and running. He may be a nice guy, but that is not the reason to vote someone in. I hear McGuinty is a really nice guy too. H

Cheryl
August 30, 2010 / 17:01

Smitherman all the way. Believe me, trust me. So he made a mistake. He didn't mean to hurt anyone. Ford wouldn't win. I know he wouldn't. Smitherman all the way. Yes, the Habs will be in the playoffs again this year. They will even win the cup. Leafs have no chance. Baseball is really a boring game. It's too slow. I like basketball though. I'm a Phoenix Suns fan.

Ryan
August 30, 2010 / 17:34

Cheryl, for once i would love you to back up your statements with facts or proof of what you are stating.

Ford can't win? What? (I hate Ford but to say he can't win is insane)

Sammi
August 30, 2010 / 21:01

Cheryl...are you f@cking serious??? So he made a mistake??? A BILLION DOLLAR MISTAKE WITH OUR MONEY!!! Smitherman loves naive people like you. Are you actually of voting age???

Cheryl
August 31, 2010 / 18:26

I met George Smitherman and I really like him. Lots of other people do as well. Yes, I am voting age, but I don't tell people my age. That's very personal. I don't like rob Ford. No way will I vote for him. I really think Smitherman will win. He's good.

Hector
September 1, 2010 / 09:11

You are right Cheryl...Smitherman is good...at pulling the wool over your eyes.

Cheryl
September 2, 2010 / 17:49

Okay okay. I am still voting for Smitherman. Nothing will change me. He will be a good mayor. He made a mistake. He'll fix things. Everyone makes mistakes.
