G-20 Summit Delays Roy Halladay's Return to Toronto

Published by Toronto Mike on May 11, 2010 @ 14:15 in Toronto Blue Jays

JaysOn June 25, 26 and 27, the Phillies were to play here in Toronto. That would have meant the return of Roy Halladay, greatest Blue Jays starter of all-time. That would have been cool.

Now the G-20 Summit has gone and screwed that all up. Security concerns, because the G-20 takes place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, have the series moving to Philadelphia.

So no Roy this season. That blows.

Such a shame!

What I cannot believe is that it took G20 organizers/the Blue Jays/MLB this long to decide to change the game to Philly! We've known about the G20 summit — being held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre for months! And everyone mentioned the potential security problems posed, especially because of the Philly series at the Rogers Centre.
Perhaps when Halladay does get to return to Toronto, he'll be blinding all of us in the stands with the World Series ring on his finger.

That damn G20! Why is it even in Toronto? What possible benefit is it going to bring?

Well look at it this way if
philly sells out the Jays get the game revenue

Something tells me Mike, that game would have sold out in Toronto, too — so game revenue would be a moot point.

Man, this summit has been confirmed for a long time. It is just a shame MLB did not block these dates when they were making the schedule. The Jays will probably take yet another negative PR rap.

Agree with Buffalo Boy, at least the Phillies will sell out and toss the Jays some coin.

Wasn't this summit moved from Huntsville to Toronto like two months ago?

And even then, I think the city was trying to get them to have it at the Ex.

He ain't driving to Philly to watch the games. Nothing has been said about tickets bought for these games here.

Philly is a fun place to see a game, though I probably wouldn't mention Mitch Williams' name (again).

@ Sarah, in Toronto one game would sell out, in Philly you are going to get a much better turnout for the other two games AND the revenue is in US currency which I know its pretty close in value but a couple extra cents on the dollar ain't going to hurt this organization.

i know every one is upset but really can you blame the reason? The world's most powerful and influential leaders will be mere kilometres away from the Rogers Centre. Downtown will be a mess to commute in due to all of the excess security and black SUVs. Blame fate not anyone else.
