6 Responses to "Ernie Harwell, Dead at 92"Toronto Mike @Steve I agree 100%. On my old AM transistor, I could pick up Ernie late at night calling Tigers games. He was my second favourite. I remember Ernie while living in London, Ontario, I would pull in WJR 760 on my radio and would listen to Ernie, what a gem, a true master. He would often guest on Blue Jay Broadcasts when the Jays played the Tigers...Tom, Ernie and Jerry...man, that's classic baseball broadcasting. God bless Ernie, you done good! Faunie As a kid I listened to Tigers baseball with my parents. Ernie Harwell was the best! 4x4 Time Years ago I worked for a company that advertised on TSN Blue Jays games, and we got a tour of the broadcast booth and met Dan Shulman and Buck Martinez. That night the Tigers were in town, and as we were leaving the press box Ernie Harwell was there and introduced himself and when he found out we were from Toronto, he told us how wonderful a city and people we have and how much he and his wife enjoyed comming to Toronto. Just a very very nice man. Alan G When a broadcaster has a real love for the game and the people who listen it comes across in his/her voice and makes you want to keep on listening. Ernie made it feel like he there in the room chatting with you. He had the great fortune to talk to the people while watching the game he loved. Unlike so many of the broadcasters today he seemed to have no ego. He wasn't yelling and screaming and making a production out of everything. He was one of the best.
