Municipality of Tigre Hero

supermanThere is a hero in Argentina. In the animated gif below, you'll see a white van stalled on the train tracks. With no time to spare, the passenger on the motorcycle pushes the van to safety and narrowly escapes being hit by the train himself.

When I stumbled across this gif, I didn't believe it. A little Googling reveals it's true. Here's the full length video from the Municipality of Tigre camera.

More than 330 cameras monitor the different points of Tigre which allow police to stop criminals, detect fires and accidents or take pictures of reckless drivers and heroes.

Quick tip to every out there: If you're ever in your car and it stalls on the train tracks, get out of the car.

That's what made me think this was fake at first. Why would the guy in the van stay in there with the train approaching so quickly?

This motorcycle dude is messing with natural selection.

Why didn't the other man get off the motorcycle to help. Two men can push a van off the tracks with more success then one. Time was of the essence.

The passenger on the motorcycle is a hero, but he's crazy. That was insanely risky and he barely lived to tell the tale. Again, if the person in the van had just got out...

As for the driver of the motorcycle, he probably saw the train coming and decided it wasn't worth the risk. Perhaps he hoped the van would start or the driver would get out or maybe he was a deer in the headlights, paralyzed by fear.

Perhaps the van is a handicap-equipped vehicle. On the long version of the video you see some passengers (or possibly the driver) of the train congratulating the dude, but there's no sign of anyone walking around from the other side of the train. Perhaps they were unable to?

I think the dumbest thing is that the push was probably unnecessary. The train came to a complete stop maybe 15-20' past where the van used to be. It can't have been going that fast. The occupants might have been injured but it wouldn't have been a disaster, I don't think. Not that I'd be willing to try it. :)

Keep in mind, the motorcyclists don't have helmets, showing you the amount of risk they are willing to have in their lives.

That guy is a hero. End of story.

It's good top know that there are still people like that floating around.
