He may have health issues as do I but falling asleep isn't one of mine.

I would be concerned more about his health issues impacting him falling asleep at the wheel when driving in from Coburg. It wold surprise me if the TTC employee takes transit in from Northumblerland County.

Sleeping on the job should equal instant termination. If sleeping on the job was written into their Union contract then the bargaining committee should terminated. Of course if they want to keep their jobs they could always give the money back that they stole. Lets call it what it is "theft"

Maybe I'm all wrong about this and the TTC are secretly conducting sleep studies.

Yeah - self-inflicted health issues: chooses not to get adequate sleep (and probably also exercise) off the job.

With all due respect Dave, Torontonians are always held to ransom by their municipal union employees who are overly entitled, can't be fired no matter what happens, and wildcat strike inconveniencing a couple of 100 thousand users. When you poke the public in the eye with these moves, don't expect too much sympathy when an incident such as this (we now have 2 sleepers caught in 1 week) occurr.

Rick, we have ridiculous unions out in BC too. I understand being frustrated wiht the organization. But do you really think this man deserves to have that frustration taken out on him individually on such a large scale?

Sorry, from the outside I side with the individual who made a mistake rather than a group of people trying to ridicule someone for making a mistake.

I don't think it's really about this individual sleeping. I'd say it's more the overall malaise in this broken city. Toronto the Good has been long dead. We're like the old guy at the club now - very far from our past, yet still trying to bring it.

Generally speaking the TTC is good. Now it might not rank up there with other cities, however those comparisons are misleading and simple. Our money is being wasted in Toronto and the many pictures that have come out illustrate the amazing lack of oversight that exists at the TTC.

THe personal atttacks are a little much, but in light of the TTC spend money on customer service people are sick of the BS.

On any given night you can go to many stations and see gates left open and people walking through for free. These people are stealing yes, but why isn;t the TTC doing anything about it? Go to King st and watch the guy at the gate with his feet up on the ticket box talking with the guy who is supposed to cleaning station (who usually is blocking one of the turnstiles).

THe real problem with unions is they protect the bad members way too much and leave the good members to take the brunt of public anger.

If you're singing the praises of the TTC, get your head checked.

This union could get away with murder more easily than OJ and they all make me sick.

Of course they have health issues, they are all fat, lazy and obnoxious.

If yuo sit on your over-paid fat ass, you get health issues.

Also, they wonder why so many of them get assualted? I say not enough of them are assaulted.

Toronto is in shambels and the TTC is just the tip of the ice berg, so don't sugar coat it.

This guy should be fired, end of story, but he can hide behind his union as all TTC employees do.

I'm sick of hearing unions whine about job security. No one has fucking job security anymore.

I am surprised this tools excuse wasn't that he is allergic to work and can't help it.

Someone should slap the taste out of his mouth.

Having ridden the TTC lots over the years I have seen drivers/staff put up with all kinds of rude, obnoxious even psychopathic TTC patrons in the course of their day..what do you have to deal with?

Give the guy a break...the TTC is not just one person.

Dave, you have to live here to understand. It's not just one guy sleeping that has everyone's attention. That one person sleeping symbolizes the mediocre attitude the TTC has to customer service. Fare collectors at subway stations can make up to $100,000 in overtime for their simple job that a machine could do. Yet often, they're unfriendly, unhelpful, and sometimes rude. People sense that there's something wrong with that side of the TTC, though it serves its purpose of providing transportation well.

Some morons would even like them to be assaulted (see above).

No offense guys, but if you look up this guys history, he DOES in fact have health issues. He was a driver before, and quite frankly this guy has saved a couple lives in his time while on the job.

TTC couldn't fire the dude, so they put him in the "Fair Box"

You should thank him for the free rides you got while sneaking past the dude Metal Gear Style..

I love how you guys blast the Drivers, its the system that's at fault here.

If you were pissed that your driver paused to get a coffee.. just wait until he sits there for 15 minutes..

... and now a TTC driver gets fired for pausing to get a coffee... well.. suspended..

That will go to arbitration..

He will win that case

you guys end up wasting about 10,000 bux of city dollars over that alone..

Now think of this, they never had breaks in their shifts before.. .. but now they are force to make breaks now....

(ever wonder why they seem cranky?)

imagine how much money that will cost.. now that you have to adjust the system to allow for breaks..

I used to live in Toronto.. and moved in a city in the states where I'm lucky to see one bus pass per hour..

and now I see people are taking pictures of drivers that ARE NOT on duty and posting pix..

seriously folks... its time to point your anger elsewhere..
