The Least for the Most

leafsTickets to a Leafs game are the most expensive in the NHL. It's not even close.

According to Chicago-based Team Marketing Report's annual survey released this week, Maple Leafs games at the Air Canada Centre carry an average ticket of $117.49 this season (all figures U.S.), more than double the league's standard of $51.41.

With only 11 of the NHL's 30 teams raising ticket prices this season, according to TMR, the Leafs' 10 per cent increase over last year's number is the league's highest, with the New York Rangers and their 7.1 per cent increase to a $58.57 average ticket cost next in line as far as increase (Montreal, at an average $72.18, is the second-priciest seat in the league).

$117.49 on average for one ticket. Take your kid and it's $250 before you've parked and bought a hot dog. That's serious cabbage for a team that hasn't made the playoffs in five years.

That's also why I haven't paid for a Leafs ticket in about seven years. Do you pay for Leafs tickets?

Would love to see the game more often, but with this price - forget it!

I turned down opening day (freebie)tickets because of the prices for everything else. Just not worth it. I give 2-3 sets of tickets away every year.
A hockey a Leaf fan - but until they become competitive not wasting $$.

Probably cheaper to drive to Buffalo, Pittsburgh or Detroit to see a game.

Looked into a Canadiens game last year in Buffalo and the total for 2 tickets was $150 USD.

I will never pay for Leaf tickets and haven't done so for over 10 years.

I'm with Gary, but that's because I reside in Winnipeg.

When I go for hockey, I'd rather catch a Junior A game. Better grade hockey, easily.

Would you pay that much for tickets if they had made the playoffs in the last five years? Doubtful.

They are over priced - successful on the ice or not.

It's not surprising. This is the team of the biggest city in the heartland of hockey - Canada. This transcends the team's performance.

But it goes to show that bringing another team to Toronto is a no-brainer. Think of the possible subway series.

I don't pay for Leaf tickets, but I do for the Marlies...If you're OK with the $10 zone (which is actually close given the smaller arena size), I can take my three kids, eat, drink, and transit for about a 100 bucks - and it's a WINNING hockey team to boot. Go Bozak!!!!

Leafs tickets are for our betters, Teachers and other deservedly higher paid governmental associated types. I'm grateful for their benevolence of televising Saturday games in February and March - when "real hockey" is played. Go Leafs Go!!

@CQ you are truly whacked! "Our betters, Teachers and other deservedly higher paid governmental associated types"? More like the Bay Street bums. I said in another blog the Leafs are nothing but a cash cow with poor results. I have never paid for a Leaf ticket......never will. Blow Leafs Blow! After all, it is Autumn.

I haven't bought tickets since about 1996. I was offered two for this weekend but I wasn't about to pay for two purples. Also the team is terrible, the price is not worth the product.
