Happiness is Marineland's Original Theme Song

memoryYouTube user Retrontario frequently uploads fantastic retro-Toronto-centric gems. These clips never fail to bring back a ton of memories for me, so I feature them from time to time.

One of my brothers used to tell me they knew the girl who appeared in the "Happiness is Marineland" ads that air every summer. The story was that her father composed the song. I don't know if any of this was true, but I do know they've been airing that same ad and song for what seems like a hundred years.

It turns out Marineland had a theme song before that one. Here's the original Marineland theme from 1983. It's not quite as zippy.

I think all the Marineland ads over the years have been really good. They are played everyday, many times a day and I'm never sick of hearing them. Unlike Russell Oliver who I wish harm to...

This is one of the things I don't miss since moving out of WNY.

I remember that! Once it started, I could finish it... almost.

BUT that said, now I'm in trouble. The other day I wandered around work singing the "Picture Pages" theme, now I will have the Marineland commercial floating for the next week... *sigh*

Even before I pressed play on that I could sing the whole 30 second commercial. In fact (sad, but true), I sometimes do find myself singing that song to myself even today...

A nice (yet pleasant), useless piece of trivia taking up space in my brain so that now I can go to the grocery store planning to buy milk, come home with everything but milk...

The best thing about the place is the theme song.

It is just one big Rip-Off. Stay away. Far away.

I haven't been there since before all the rides... even as a kid I knew it was a rip-off. I remember I had to put a dime in a door to be able to go to the bathroom. The Great Canadian Rip Off but with a catchy tune.

I can't mute this overplayed commercial fast enough, particularly the one sung by Susie McNeil starting with "there's a place I know in Ontaro" - so out of tune and pitchy it makes my skin crawl.
