Arland Bruce's End Zone Michael Jackson Tribute

Published by Toronto Mike on July 3, 2009 @ 08:48 in Toronto Argos

argosToronto Argonaut slotback Arland Bruce scored the Argos first touchdown of the season on Wednesday, on a 21-yard pass from Kerry Joseph. Then, he paid tribute to Michael Jackson by removing his helmet, shoulder pads and uniform top, then laid down in the end zone.

Here's the controversial celebration:

Remember when guys like Jim Brown, Walter Payton and Barry Sanders refused to celebrate touchdowns? They acted like they've been in the end zone before, and they'd be there again.

But heck, Arland Bruce's MJ tribute was pretty tame compared to his Spider-Man routine last season.

He was pretending to lie in a coffin? Perhaps he was also paying tribute to Farrah Fawcett, Ed McMahon or even Karl Malden.

I think a moon walk or screaming at a high pitch like a 6 year old girl would have been a more fitting and accurate tribute to Wacko Jacko.

Would anyone know what he was doing without the explaination?

I saw this live and I didn't have a clue what he was doing.

We really needed a moon walk or a crotch grab.

Wow, just saw the video finally but when I heard he did a controversial tribute I figured he just danced in MJ fashion. Hmm...

That was just dumb. I am more upset how anti-climatic it was after all the hype.

He took his shirt off and laid down. Dumb.

I liked it. This guy is what the CFL needs....some character and personality.

I can live without character and personality, as long as there's quality football.

*ducks*

The celebrations are as subpar as the league itself.

I was watching it live as well and was baffled by what he was trying to do. I remember the Simpsons where Homer was teaching NFL players how to celebrate a TD and he lay down and rolled the grass on top of him like a blanket.

I kept expecting Bruce to do that... I didn't know where else to go with it!!!!

The CFL vs. NFL debate around here always entertains me.

Here's a fact... Toronto has a CFL team and does not have an NFL team. Sure, we borrow Buffalo's team for a game or two here and there, but they're just using us for our money. It's still Buffalo's team.

So long as CFL is the only game in town, it's my football of choice.

I don't even know where to begin with this one.

Fact: NFL is a better game because they are better athletes playing in a better league.

I am a Sunday NFL Freak. I study every player at every position and my Fantasy NFL Squad (keeper league) is like my family.

I tried to enjoy the CFL, but its just too much like watching pee wee hockey after watching an NHL game.

I'm all for Canadian Content but when looking at the talent the league brings in, you have to almost laugh. It's a joke outside of Canada and as Canadians we are blinded. I just took off the blinders.

The NFL bores me, but I find the sport of football too militaristic in its structured play. It's a distant fourth for me in terms of favourite spectator sports.

I enjoy the CFL b/c I like rooting for the home team. If we had a true home team in the NHL, I'd likely watch those games.

I enjoyed the Canada Day Argo~Ti-Cats game. Sue me!

No respect for the game,
To quote the Hip:

It reminded me of the idiot that yells "Get in the hole!" on the tee of a par 5. Just plain stupid. But, he was an Argo after all. Right? :0O
