The Blue and the Green

Published June 25, 2009 @ 11:05 in Miscellaneous

Magnifying GlassI just stumbled upon what might be the greatest optical illusion I've ever seen.

Take a look at this image:

colors

Do you see blue and green? I did too, then I was told they're the exact same colour. I have a colour picker add-on for Firefox that lets me click a colour to see the RGB numbers and lo and behold both the blue and green are rgb(0, 255, 150).

The reason they look different colors is because our brain judges the color of an object by comparing it to surrounding colors. In this case, the stripes are not continuous as they appear at first glance. The orange stripes don’t go through the "blue" spiral, and the magenta ones don’t go through the "green" one.

It's no hoax. Feel free to open it in Photoshop or whatever...

The blue and the green are the same colour and I'll be seeing you all this weekend. This year, I'm on a float.

This can't be true. And what is a color anyway? Is it not what we see. I see green therefore it is green.

Man, i still don't buy it.

New here...stumbled upon this blog while searching for something about CFRB...

This illusion is crazy. I don't have photoshop but I just stuck some post it notes to cover up most of the illusion except a couple green and blue spots and magically they appear to me as the same colour. Take away the post-its and look at the whole picture and they're changed again.
