I Need a PHD in NHL 2K9

Published May 26, 2009 @ 12:38 in Technology

NintendoI play NHL 2K9 on the Nintendo Wii with my son. We've been playing for a few months now, and I'm still struggling with the controls. There's just too much to learn.

When I was a kid, I played Ice Hockey and Blades of Steel on the NES and our control pad was simple. You could pass and shoot, slap shots or wrist shots, there were one-timers and player movement, but that's about it. Below are the controller instructions for NHL 2K9 on the Wii.

No wonder I'm struggling, that's hardcore. You know what I miss? I miss this work of art...

Those old Nintendo controllers hurt to use after more than 30 minutes or so. Talk about non-ergonomic.

I think the controls would be easier if it wasn't Wii. Some you have to just push a button, some just shake the remote, some push a button and shake... too many combos. Even with the 8+ buttons on an Xbox or PS3 controller, it's easier. This button does this, that button does that.

That being said, I still haven't mastered the more advanced stuff playing Madden...

THANK YOU!!! We just got it a week ago and my son is beating the living crap out of me - I'm having a real hard time. When it comes to one control games, like bowling or tennis, I'm okay - multiple combos and I'm toast. Good luck Mike - I'm giving up.

My son is only 7 but he beats me at NHL 2K9 more than I beat him. I hate that!

I get so confused, I can't even remember how to win the damn faceoff.

Dude take it from Coach, get yourself EA NHL2009 and you will have never played a more fun hockey simulator.

I'm with Coach, been playing EA NHL since '94 and is still the most fun. The 2k series is OK but, like Lew says too many combos for Wii.

There's no EA NHL for the Wii, as far as I know.

I, too, loved EA Sports' NHL '94 - literally played all day on the Super Nintendo.
