Circle Square Christian TV on Global

memoryYouTube user Retrontario frequently uploads fantastic retro-Toronto-centric gems. These clips never fail to bring back a ton of memories for me, so I feature them from time to time.

Circle Square was a Canadian children's television series that ran from 1974 to 1986. The series was produced by Crossroads Christian Communications in cooperation with the Circle Square network of summer camps for children of Christian parents.

I don't know how I completely missed this show. 1974 through 1986 covers the first 12 years of my life. This show must have aired at some ungodly hour because I didn't stumble upon it even once.

Judging from this creepy clip, it looks like I missed a beaut.

Circle Square camps still exist across Ontario to rent out for retreats, events, etc.

They're still great properties.

But how is it I never saw this show growing up? Lord knows I saw Hercules on Global just about every day... when did Circle Square air?

Was usually on early Sunday. They would have bought the time (per the creepy disclaimer at the outset of the clip).

Retrontario is freaking awesome!! They actually have the Ontario Health board commercial about the drunk dad trying to fix his son's General Lee car.

"Go to bed. NOW!"

I was more a Davey and Goliath kid but I do remember this mix of puppets, pulpits and preachers.

Davey and Goliath aired during The Commander Tom Show. LDS put out some fine blasphemous shite.

Oh my, I used to watch this show all the time and I am sure it was on really, really early! There used to be a show called Treehouse Club too I remember! I had certifcates (or maybe they were song books) sent to me! I had no idea how much religious propagnada I was exposed too through TV! Commander Tom must have come on after as I remember Davy & Goliath and that damn Birthday Clown! Too funny! My friend actually sent her 3 kids to Circle Square Camp in Brantford and says it wasn't too over the top with the religous aspect but the kids had a blast!

Those kids were beyond repulsive. I knew Martin was gay before I even knew what gay was! And Aron?? He looks like a guy who never wiped his bottom in his whole life.

This is so hilarious!! I am 20 years old, but because I have sisters who are 20 and 19 years older than me, they were Circle Square children. Therefore, my sisters and I watched Circle Square for years, and we still have to VHS tapes, which I have introduced to my godsons and nephews and nieces. They LOVE it!
How we got a hold of this show, I don't know, because we live in the South East US. Lol!!

I watched this show a a child and I LOVED it. There are not many shows now you could just leave your children to watch. This was one of them.

i always thought this show was creepy even as a little kid, but i remember j.c. cunningham was my first gay crush so i watched it 'religiously' just to see him.. it was around the time of this clip that i became angry thinking jayson was supposed to be j.c.'s replacement once he left and i was having none of it, so i think 1986 must've been the year i stopped watching.. thank you 'circle square' for giving little gay boys across north america j.c. to dream about.. HA!

Oh man your comments are SO funny! My cousin and I used to watch C/S in the summer when she was visiting from the States. I found your web site b/c I was looking for the actual lyrics to this song from the show that totally cracked us up, mostly b/c it was so amenable to our made up lyrics put to its tune. It was something like "Why dont you share (refrain: a little bit)
why don't you care (a little bit)" which we turned into "And spike your hair (a little bit)" etc. We just went on a trip together and still made up some doozies. Cheers.

I remember getting the song books in the mail. I was excited. I wanted to be a part of the cast of the show. I loved it!!! I just finished watching an old episode I had on tape. IVY, what episodes do you have on tape? I have a handful but am always looking for more. I also want episode from the 1970's era if anybody has them out there.

@ EAP, the song you are referring to is entitled "A little bit more". Your posting was funny. "spike your hair a little bit more". LOL. I actually have this episode on tape somewhere. This is so cool.
