Bless Us and Save Us From the Fires of Hell

HellThere's buzz today about a Pew Research Center survey that suggests the more often Americans go to church, the more likely they are to support the torture of suspected terrorists. I'd file this one under D for "Duh!".

As others have pointed out, the concept of Hell is pretty much based on the threat of torture. Religious people are bred to accept torture as a way of life.... errr, I mean, death.

Growing up, my grandmother used to say "bless us and save us from the fires of Hell". That's some scary shit for a kid to hear. The entire concept of Hell is so frightful and hateful it's the absolute last thing I'd want to put in my kids' minds. To Hell with Hell!

As my late father always said "we live in HELL" & go to heaven when we die. I'm starting to believe it.

I agree with Mike. My kids go to Catholic School (although I am far from Catholic). The concept of Heaven and Hell is very complex. Heaven is easy to to talk about with my kids. It's a great place, and you go there after you die. BUT, Hell ... now how do you explain that? It scares the shit out of my 10 year old. Catholics hit our young kids with this dark concept, but do little to help them understand it, or deal with it. This is a travesty that has gone of for centuries.

On another note, I know "Christians" who think they are somehow different from other "christians" (Catholics, Prodestants, etc.) who think that their version of "Christianity" is the only one that counts. In fact, they even go as far as to say that no other "Christian" is really a "Christian". And unless they follow their version of Christianity you will not go to heaven. Give me a fucken break!

You left the building a long time ago. Are you in Michigan or in HELL?
See you in Collingwood.
