Published by Toronto Mike on April 18, 2009 @ 10:34 in Twitter

TwitterOprah has entered the Twittersphere. It's not quite Neil Armstrong taking a step on the moon, but it'll do for a Saturday morning in April. Here's Oprah's first tweet.

HI TWITTERS . THANK YOU FOR A WARM WELCOME. FEELING REALLY 21st CENTURY .

Ho hum.... I'm not following Oprah on Twitter, but I do follow Shaq. Check out his quick response to The Mighty O.

Maybe I'm just punchy from a 12-hour overnight shift, but that made my day. Thanks Mike. :)

This whole 'Twitter' thing is the stupidest, most moronic thing every invented and I can't beleive how stupid everyone is for falling for it.

So twitter is a fast way to convey messages to many people.

Wonder how long it will take for someone to have one too many and send a message they wish they hadn't.

How long before we see the first libel suit ?

Casual instant mass messages. Don't know but seems dangerous to me.

Mike - twitter doesn't charge but the phone companies do? Text messaging charges ?

Text messages don't apply to tweets. Using Twitterberry, or even just going to www.twitter.com using your mobile browser, just eats up a portion of your data plan.

And, if you do write something you quickly regret, you can always delete it. Authors can delete their tweets.

As with anything you put in the public domain, make sure it's fit for public consumption before you click update.

I work in litigation.

It's only a matter of time.

So, if I call Elvis a mouth breather via Twitter, he can sue me for slander?

In print it is libel. This forum counts.

Spoken it is slander.

There are rules about how long after it happens before you take action.

But yes, anything can happen.

I predict you will see an L.A. example soon enough.
