Maple Leafs 1, Sabres 3

LeafsI don't know about other Leafs fans, but I can't muster up an ounce of care around Brad May's 1000th game in the NHL. It might be nice for Sabres fans, but other than a great Rick Jeanneret "May Day" call, Brad May is just a guy who played 1000 games. That, apparently, is enough to get you a silver stick from Red Kelly.

Cujo made a little history himself last night, losing game #352, tying Gump Worsley for most losses in NHL history. And yes, it was another loss. If we count overtime and shootout losses, and we should, this was our 48th loss of the season. We've been topped 48 out of 81 times out, that's 59.25%. That sucks.

Actually, I never liked that Jeannaret call, as much as I like the guy himself. It was a cheap gimmick that made no sense - just something he clearly wanted to use sometime, whenever. If he had coughed up the puck in the crease and cost them the game, then sure, cry "May Day! May Day!" It's a distress call. Screaming "May Day" after he scores the winning goal doesn't work.

May scored the winning goal - he was the hero of the Day - hence, May Day.

Ok, I'm pushing it but I like the call. Hard not to get caught up in the moment.

Good on ya Mike for calling out the Leafs as a .400 team...
