Losing to Italy in Baseball?

Published March 9, 2009 @ 20:53 in Sports

BaseballI can understand Canada losing to Italy in soccer. In fact, I'd expect that. I'd also expect to lose to Italy in pizza dough throwing. As I type, however, Canada is losing to Italy in the World Baseball Classic at the ballpark formerly known as Skydome. That's unacceptable.

It's the bottom of the sixth, so there's still time. We have to come back and take this. We're not losing to Italy in baseball...

It's all about pride, passion and desire, right?

7th inning, still 4-2 Italy. I think I'm going to be sick.

5-2? Are you kidding me? We almost beat the USA and now we get spanked by the Italians? At home? WTF?

This is starting to remind me of Martin Gerber and the Swiss circa 2006. http://www.torontomike.com/2006/02/canada_0_switzerland_2.html

On the bright side...

It's not hockey. And what's a Baseball Classic anyway? Something they made up a few years ago?

Who am I kidding? I'm pissed. I love baseball, and like a patriotic fool, I was starting to dig this tournament. 2 and out with a loss to Italy?

Just shoot me.

Perhaps the Italian amateur sports receives money and support from the many coalition governments in Italy.

The WBC was a joke before this game.

I'm Italian but even I think having a guy named COOPER on Team Italia is just wrong.

Even better is that most of these guys only play baseball on the WEEKENDS in Italy. HAHAHAHAHA!

Who the hell plays for Italy that is of any importance? Maybe the Jays can find a Starter or two there

The Cat plays for Italy, but that's the only player I recognized.

I've done no-research on the matter, but was Mike Piazza on the bench as a coach?

That was depressing, it was like watching a midseason Jays game. :(

Yep, Piazza is a coach. I saw him there.

Piazza has played for Italy in the past.
