Good News For Freddie P

Published September 3, 2008 @ 19:38 in Humble and Fred, Radio

radioThe summer of 2008 has been bitter sweet for fans of the Humble and Fred show. Over the past few weeks both Humble Howard and Fred Patterson have moved on to the next phase of their professional lives. I'm very happy for both guys, even though I'll likely never get to hear my favourite radio tandem on the air again.

Today Freddie P announced he's the new program director of two radio stations: Peterborough's Best Rock, 101.5 the Wolf, and Home Town Oldies 980 Kruz that will move to 100.5 FM sometime in the fall. It's perfect for Fred as it will allow him to spend more time at his beloved tin palace, a trailer a mere 20 minutes from Peterborough.

Humble has moved on to mornings on EZ Rock 97.3 as he works toward his goal of being the Canadian John Tesh. I'm rooting for him. Actually, I'm rooting for both Humble and Fred as they move on from the old Humble and Fred show.

Nothing lasts forever. Congrats, Fred. I remember really digging The Wolf during a trip to Peterborough. Any station that plays that much Hip and Neil Young is alright by me.

I hear ya on the bitter sweet thing Mike, I think like you, I held out a lot of hope that the best morning show in Canada would sign on somewhere but you have to be happy for both of them and its not like we can't still stay connected to them both, they have the blogs and Im sure Freddie is going to take his two station deal and run with it.
Howard as the John Tesh thing? John Tesh has nothing on Howard period!

Bitter sweet indeed. The wolf is a decent station with a pretty loose format. I like that, yes you hear some crap but you never know for sure what's next. And that's a good thing. And irt's good that somebody I like is getting a break that he needs and wants.

That picture was from the 2006 Gift of Christmas Podcast we recorded at Dan Duran's house. I was lucky enough to be along for the ride and I took a ton of pictures.

Before I lived in T.O., my friends used to tell me how funny the H&F show was. Then I heard it, and was dumbfounded by how underwhelming it was.
You guys who actually look nostalically at that crap tandem simply had no idea of what else was out there (I was listening to Drew and Mike in Detroit at the time - now that was riotous)!

I reckon you are the same people who miss Wayne and Shuster. Get over it!

I miss Wayne and Shuster, too!

This can only help a tired small town station. Sorry to say it but the Wolf is a joke and programmed by suits that think we love a sh*tload of golden 70's rock with interludes of Nickleback. The Eagles may be touring these days but no one wants to hear them.
