Al Green - Here I Am (Come And Take Me)
Kids today are losing their soul. Ask that 25 year old you work with about Wilson Pickett, Sam Cooke or Al Green. They won't have a clue who you're talking about, but they know their T-Pain and Akon, that's for sure.

I love this Al Green song from '73. But then again, who doesn't?

Oh, I don't know if I can agree with you on this one. I am only 5 years removed from that age and furthermore, I can only imagine how many times Al Green has been sampled by hip hop and/or mainstream hip hop.

Then again, who reads liner notes anymore..

Point being, they DO know Al Green whether they know they know or not.

Jamie Foxx is why they know Ray Charles perhaps, but they don't know Al Green. Ask around.

They might know Al Bundy, or Brian Austin Green, but they don't know Al Green.

I've been a fan of the Rev. Al Green for as long as I can remember. He is a master in regards in terms of his performances and studio prowess, and should be a noted contributor to the popular music pantheon. If what you say is true, and that most of the "young-ins" these days are unaware of the original versions of these songs, that's a damn shame! Nothing can come close to the soul found in classics such as a "Let's Stay Together," especially if we're comparing it to most of today's R&B and hip-hop.

(Quick sidenote... my good friend, David Wilson, is a renowned violinist and recently did a wonderful instrumental cover of "Lets Stay Together" on his album, Nobody Does It Better.)

Here's hoping that more and more uncover the power of Al Green's music and his contemporaries!

I think most youngins know "Lets Stay Together" as "that song from Pulp Fiction".
