Patio Lanterns

musicI decided to wake up to EZ Rock this week so I could check out Humble Howard's new morning show. Today my alarm went off while Kim Mitchell was singing "Patio Lanterns".

In 1986 I couldn't escape that song. It was everywhere. It was on high rotation on 680 CFTR, the video was played continuously and it was so damn catchy you couldn't help but sing it early and often.

It was sweet nostalgia waking up to this tune this morning. I was twelve years old again, without the acne and braces, but my voice was pretty much the same!

I was a Max Webster fan but this snd some of the other solo stuff was just awful IMHO.

I saw Max Webster Open for Rush at the CNE in 1977. I also saw Max at the gardens on New Years eve at least once maybe twice. Some herbage was involved and the memories are a little dim.

I have to agree with James. I was never much of a Max Webster fan but Kim's solo stuff sucks. Patio Lanterns is so obnoxious, so calculated to be a hit on adult contemporary radio. It's typical of a Canadian music industry in the 80s which tried to buy lowest-common-denominator hits for fringe artists like Mitchell and Jeff Healy (remember the nauseating 'Angel Eyes')? I'm not blaming the artists, I'm blaming the industry...

I saw Max Webster open for Rush at the Dundas Arena 1976. Trish, calling Max Webster (Kim Mitchell) and Jeff Healy "fringe artists" is just wrong. But then again, I disagree with most of your posts on this and other blogs.
