There's a little more effort for the rider than most people think... this is a new course that the riders get to go through only once before the actual event, so unlike a race (where the horse just goes around a track), the rider has a lot of effort in getting the horse through the event, making all it's jumps, and making sure it doesn't turn away from anything (especially since the horse won't be as conditioned as a race horse to automatically perform tasks).
