My Entertainment Centre Circa 1996

tvWhen I found the bridge pic last night, I found a few other nuggets from the mid-90s. The picture below is my home entertainment system in my very first apartment in 1996. Here's a little more I wrote about 30 Charles Street West, University of Toronto family housing. The rent was dirt cheap but you had to be both a student at the university and married to get in.

Looking at this pic, a few things jump out at me.

  • There's a Super Nintendo on the floor. Until a Nintendo Wii showed up at Christmas, that was the last gaming console I played.
  • I recently dusted off that stereo and moved it to my current bedroom. I was listening to it this morning.
  • That very VCR is still hooked up to the television in our bedroom.
  • It's strange seeing all those CDs out - now that everything is MP3, all the CDs are stored away.
  • That dresser the television is sitting on has been painted green and now resides in our kitchen.

In twelve years, very little has changed!

Mike, its wierd that You say your CD's are stored away, I sill display mine, no I don't listen to the CDs but If I want to see album artwork or read liner notes while Im listening to something they are there, or if someone is over and wants to see my collection its out and open for them.
I still have VHS proudly displayed and have a VCR/DVD combo because I refuse to give up on VHS and hell I still have Cassette tapes that I listen to in my car.
I havent gone to flat screen TV yet or any fancy TV..

I'm still CRTing it with the telly as well. My main TV is a 27" Sony Trinitron I got on sale about 7 years ago. I haven't gone flat panel yet.

As for the VHS, I've pretty much left the medium behind. I don't watch anything on VHS anymore. I only have it because I don't yet have a PVR and if there's ever something I have to see I can always tape it.

And my CDs... boxed up and in a closet in the basement. I don't even think about them any more.
