Odds - Eat My Brain

MP3I share an MP3 from my collection every Wednesday. You have seven days to grab this week's MP3. Please right-click your mouse and select "Save Link As..." or "Save target as..." so you can download it to your PC before playing.

Odds - Eat My Brain
Not only was this a fun single from Vancouver-based The Odds but the song's video featured a chase sequence starring members of The Pursuit of Happiness and Junkhouse. That's CanCon gold, my friends.

What's your point?

Does music expire after a set number of years?

No, it doesn't at all.. but I'd encourage you to mix in the new with the old.. on the theme of CanCon there is Slave to the Squarewave, Joel Plaskett Emergency, The Weakerthans, Feist, etc. Many of these bands don't get enough play. Old songs seem "safer".

In my defense, previous weekly MP3s have featured The Weakerthans and Feist, and I've written about Joel Plaskett a few times.

I'm a fan.

Good.. my beef isn't with any particular station, entity or individual.. my beef is with narrowcasting.

The labels and record stores are dying. As bloggers who discuss music, I think we should all cover as much as possible.

Maybe someone will like that little band with a few fans... the Lily Allens, the Mickey Avalons.. They might not buy an album, but they might go see a show the next time that band comes to down. It's all the artist has left.

Looking out for the 'little guy' as Fred likes to put it.

This was the topic of another one of your posts.. but.. I only bought one CD this year. Unheard of. But I went to more concerts... and I bought those tickets at Sunrise.. and I didn't go see a Football Arena status band.. I went to see new talent.. like Shiny Toy Guns, Klaxons, etc.

Hey, nothing wrong with the old but they can take care of themselves. The Eagles have Wal-Mart. Paul McCartney has Starbucks.

I want the little guys to have a change to have their music heard. They really are at a disadvantage in Toronto because nothing caters to their needs. Nothing other than new media and maybe the Steamwhistle indie club.

I think you've applied press responsibilities upon blogging, which I still consider a personal hobby. Fred's different, he's a media personality, I'm just a guy with a blog.

I don't believe I have a responsibility to promote the "little guy". I want to write about the stuff I dig, and what interests me. So long as this is a hobby and not a paying gig it's all about me, and if I hear a Klaxons song and dig it, I'll probably write about it. But if it's a Neil Young tune I'm thinking about, I'll write about it - even though Neil needs the attention a great deal less than the Klaxons.

I'm not Eye Weekly, the CBC or The Toronto Star. This is still a hobby, and while it's a hobby, it's gonna be all about me.... even if I'm guilty of narrowcasting.

Despite what you think Jason, Odds are still the little guys.
