Jean-Sebastien Aubin A King

leafs

The Los Angeles Kings signed veteran goaltender Jean-Sebastien Aubin to a one-year, $525,000 US contract today, officially ending the J.S. Aubin era here in Toronto.

If we step into my little time machine we'll recall that Aubin was unbeatable to close out the 2006 season.  In ten games he helped us secure 18 points and didn't lose a single game in regulation.  He single handedly put us back in the playoff race after a certain Swede blew a tire against Montreal in a crucial home-at-home series.

Last season with the mediocre Andrew Raycroft doing the heavy lifting I had to ask aloud "What did Jean-Sebastien Aubin ever do to piss off Paul Maurice so royally?"  Aubin was clearly in the dog house and wasn't going to get a fair shake in this town.  Rumours suggest a number of key players, including Bryan McCabe, had issues with Aubin's personality, and Raycroft was worked like a dog.  He played like one, too.

Aubin is now a King and there's a new saviour in town.  Vesa Toskala, lead us to the promised land.
