She Who Laughs Last, Laughs Best

Published March 13, 2007 @ 09:37 in For Better or for Worse

fbofwI only read one comic strip on a daily basis. I check in on the Patterson's and see what's new in the For Better or For Worse universe.

I'm confused by today's strip. Read it below and we'll continue this discussion around the bend.

To laugh or to cry?

April and Elizabeth are clearly having a little sibling tiff while both rush to get to where they need to be. April loses it and calls Elizabeth "LARD BUTT!" and then I get awfully confused.

Lizzy is giving April the evil eye while April cries and says "She who laughs last, laughs best." What exactly does that mean in this context? Who's laughing? Why is April crying? Did Lizzy smack her in the head in a frame that got deleted? Am I missing something?

Help!

Perhaps my premise is faulty. Perhaps April isn't crying, but laughing herself to tears.

If April is laughing, her concluding statement makes some sense.

Why April would laugh so hysterically from her "Lard Butt" gem is another debate for another time.

Is April laughing or crying?

I was confused too @ first, then I thought maybe April is having some kind of breakdown & is comforting herself by thinking that.

Whats not to get? She's called her sister a name, and regrets it, but in her mind she justifies the comment because she won the agruement. What I don't get is marmaduke, I mean, why don't they just get rid of that dog if he's so much trouble? And don't get me started on hagar.

I can see your take on it Alexi & one reason I don't read comics is because they can be frustrating, but then, it's all for entertainment right?

Sorry Annemarie, you'd dead wrong.

There's nothing entertaining about Marmaduke.

Ok, but I like dogs & entertainment is a subjective thing. ;)

Is she upset and comforting herself with that proverb?

That's what I said Roshan.

You're not a girl. We cry after we yell, that's all.
