Songs That Reference Canada

Published December 9, 2006 @ 11:44 in Music

musicThere's an interesting discussion going on at Ask MetaFilter. Someone wanted to know "What pop songs mention Canada, or a place or city in Canada?" That question was custom made for me.

I piped in three times, suggesting tunes from The Tragically Hip, Rush, Neil Young, Guess Who, Barenaked Ladies, City and Colour and Maestro. Although someone beat me to it, I made sure to let this person know the two essential tracks are "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" by Gordon Lightfoot and "Northwest Passage" by Stan Rogers. They're both drenched in Canadiana.

When the discussion winds down I'll list my favourite songs that reference a place or city in Canada. Leave your favourites in the comments.

When I first read "custom made for me" I thought to myself,
"Duane Lavold never made any references to Canada, did he?"
