If Archie's Not Sacred, What Is?

paintingI remember reading Archie comics when I was knee high to a grasshopper. On preview, that's really short. That would make me about 3 mm tall. Let's just say, I remember reading Archie comics as a very young kid and they were always around the house when I was growing up. Archie, Jughead, Reggie, Betty, Veronica, Big Moose and Ethel were all a part of my childhood.

If this is correct, the Riverdale gang is getting a new look in the new year. They're modernizing the appearance of the characters, giving them a more contemporary style. In other words, they're ruining what works about Archie.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the allure of Archie the 1950s innocence of it all? They don't belong in 2006, they're cut from a different cloth and that's okay. They've looked a certain way for decades and there's no point in changing that now.

If Archie Andrews and his pals aren't sacred, what is?

Our new Dynamic look is not a total change over. We have one 4 part story in Betty & Veronica Double Digest #151-154. It will be followed by another 4 part story in Archie's Pals 'n' Gals Double Digest. After that the fans will tells if they want more. However it is not every title changing over. We will continue to produce classic Archie every month, in every title we publish.

Excuse me Mike, but Archie comics characters are always dressed up in the style of the period that they are published in-having Archie & Co. dressed up in the 1940's style that they originally were when they were created is, and would be, utter stupidity!

Also, this is just a variation on the standard Archie story format that Marvel & DC have done (Ulitimates & Elseworlds, respectively.) As for comic book characters being sacred, please stop your bellyaching and start reading the books regularly, so that you can understand and know the changes that they go through to keep them interesting.
