40-1 To Bring It Home

Published by Toronto Mike on June 29, 2006 @ 20:34 in Toronto Maple Leafs

stanleycupOnline sportsbook and casino sites are already posting odds as to who will win the Stanley Cup in 2007. Ottawa and Detroit are the favourites, currently 6-1. Of the six Canadian teams in the NHL, my beloved Toronto Maple Leafs have been given the smallest chance to win it all. The blue and white are listed at 40-1.

40-1? I've gotta throw a few bucks down on the home team. You see, I keep having this recurring dream in which we win this thing and there's this most amazing parade and I'm there, wearing my Bill Barilko jersey and shedding a bucket of tears of joy. As I see it, this dream is bound to come true one day. Heck, June 2007 is as good a time as ever.

If we can get Pronger our odds will change for the better. With his attitude we don't really need him.
Raycroft in net - who knows.
Roberts wants to come back at 41 years old.
JFjr - time to make decisions.

Do we really want Robberts back, though? I mean, as good as he is/was, he was doing more sitting out with injuries than actually playing last year, wasn't he?

For the record, I'm not a fan of bringing Roberts back. He's 40 and injury prone. He's also not cheap, coming in at about 2.5 a year. We've been there, done that. Let's try something new. Let's throw that money at a younger body.

Agreed, Mike. As much as I loved the Tucker Robberts 1 2 punch they had going on, new game plan. The NHL took a year off to change, and this team's already falling behind with the changes. The things they pulled off under the old rules aren't gonna work now... that's why Domie got the boot, after all.
