There Oughta Be A Law

JusticeOntario Progressive Conservative MPP John O'Toole has re-introduced a private member’s bill to ban drivers from using cell phones in this province. That's fine, but I'm hoping for the introduction of another private member's bill. I'd like to make it illegal to keep your Christmas lights up after January 31.

I think this is a good and sensible law. For most of us, it's unnecessary as we sensibly take down our Christmas lights after the holiday season. For some, and I'm thinking of one house in particular, this is not as obvious. February 24 is simply too far removed from the holidays to justify the existence of lit christmas lights adorning ones porch.

I'm not sure if this is a federal thing, a provincial thing or a municiple thing. I'll start with my Toronto City Councillor and take it from there.

Bylaw Officers making the rounds should issue tickets that would impose fines of $50, on residents who keep their seasonal decorations up 60 days after a holiday. Homes could also be fined for having items up more than 60 days in advance. And while were at it..... $100 fines for people who have their garage painted pink or purple.
