Don Knotts was 81. He was the the skinny, lovable nerd who kept generations of television audiences laughing as bumbling Deputy Barney Fife on "The Andy Griffith Show".
I, like many others of my generation, first got to know Knotts as Ralph Furley, the landlord on "Three's Company".
